Bacon, Eggs, and Cuddles

Amity yawned as she stepped out of her room in just her bare feet and pyjamas, her lilac hair messy from being slept in. She blinked and squinted as her tired yellow eyes adjusted to the light pouring in from the bulb on the ceiling. It was too early to be awake and face the world.

    She perked up when she caught a whiff of a burning smell coming from the kitchen. "Oh no," she mumbled to herself, hurrying towards the source of the smell.

    The kitchen smelled even more strongly of burnt food. Along with the smell, there was a thin cloud of smoke hovering near the ceiling. She spotted Luz, her wife, fanning the oven—which, upon closer inspection, seemed to be the source of the smoke—with a hand towel. She hurried over worriedly.

    "Luz! What happened?" she asked, opening the window to let fresh air in.

    "Morning, batata," Luz greeted. She sighed. "I wanted to make breakfast for you, as a surprise. Obviously that didn't go as planned."

    The witch let out a little laugh. "I can tell. Don't worry, I'll help you. We can make breakfast together."

    Luz gave her a sheepish smile. "Okay. Thanks, Amity."

    They got to work, pulling out the ingredients needed for breakfast and whisking, cooking, and slicing as needed. Amity was in charge of cooking the bacon. As she washed her hands in the sink, she felt warm arms gently wrap around her. She jumped in surprise, then sighed exasperatedly.

    "Luz!" she scolded. "I was ten seconds away from flicking water at you!"

    The human giggled. "Sorry, mi amor," she said, sounding more amused than sorry.

    Amity raised an eyebrow. "Alright, that's it. I'm taking away your bacon privileges," she teased.

    Luz gasped theatrically. "Aw, c'mon! I love bacon! Plus, I know you're not actually mad about me scaring you. I felt you melt into me when I hugged you."

    The witch blushed and rolled her eyes. "Yeah, well, not while we're making breakfast. We don't want to have a repeat of what happened earlier."

    Luz huffed, gave her wife one last squeeze, and released her to continue monitoring the griffin eggs. Amity watched her go with a tender expression.

    After they finished making the meal, they both set up the table. "Alright," Luz said. "Would you like some eggs and bacon or would you like some kisses instead?"

    Amity giggled. "A little bit of both sounds good to me," she responded, and smiled as Luz handed her the plates with bacon and eggs on them, then came over and gave her a quick peck on the lips.

    "Thanks for helping me make breakfast after I...you know," Luz said sheepishly.

    "Of course! As your awesome wife, it's my pleasure to help you with breakfast."

    "Thank you, impresionante esposa," Luz said with a bright smile that made Amity's heart do a little jump. (Awesome wife)

    They chatted about various random topics while they ate. Luz announced that King was growing even bigger now, around the same height as Eda (but still just as fuzzy and cute as he was eleven years ago). Amity told her about Edric's successful business, and how apparently Emira thought it would be funny to change the labels of some of his products.

    After they finished eating and cleaning up, Amity sat down on the couch, gesturing for Luz to follow. "Let's cuddle," she said, and the human willingly joined her.

    They sat with their legs in what Luz liked to call a mermaid pose, with Luz's head resting on top of the couch and Amity's head on her wife's shoulder, their arms wrapped around each other. They didn't say anything; they didn't have to. Neither of them felt the need to pop the bubble of comfortable silence encasing them.

    After who knows how long, Luz's legs were starting to get sore. She looked down to see that Amity was asleep, a content look on her face as her chest rose and fell peacefully.

    Luz let a smile curve her lips. She wrapped both of her arms around Amity in a tight, secure hug and decided to tough out the cramped legs for a little while longer. In her mind, it was all worth it for Amity.
