Early Morning Cuddles

Amity's eyes slowly blinked open, taking in her surroundings. The first thing to register was the white ceiling above her head. The second was the pale purple walls, overhead light, and furniture of the room that she shared with her girlfriend. And the third was said girlfriend herself.

Luz was facing her, with her eyes shut and her mouth slightly open. Her arms were bent and rested close to her chest, most likely from the two of them holding hands last night before they fell asleep. Her knees were bent, too, and Amity remembered shifting herself in a boomerang-like shape so they fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, foreheads touching, hands intertwined.

Now, she gazed at her girlfriend with adoring eyes. She gently took one of her hands and cupped it, embracing it in warmth. Luz stirred at this action and fluttered open her warm brown eyes. She smiled sleepily when she saw Amity.

"Morning, batata," Amity murmured, grinning softly at her partner.

Luz yawned, which somehow still managed to look adorable. "Buenos días, hermosa."

Amity giggled. "It's Monday," she reminded her. "We should get up and go to school."

Luz groaned and stuffed her face in the witch's chest. "I'm too tired for school," she complained, her voice muffled by the fabric. "I wanna stay here with you."

"We have to," Amity said. "I want to stay with you too, but we can't. Principal Bump wouldn't excuse us just because we wanted to stay in bed."

"But Mondays are bleh," Luz said. "You make them more fuuun." She lifted her head and gave her girlfriend puppy eyes that she knew she couldn't resist. "Pleeeaase?"

Amity gave her a look, but gave in after a moment. "Okay, fine. We can cuddle for a few minutes. But then we have to get up."

"Yaay." Luz buried her head in Amity's chest again and closed her eyes contentedly. Amity smiled affectionately and started running her fingers through the human's messy brown hair. Luz kept her eyes shut, but a smile grew across her face at the soothing action.

For a few minutes they stayed like that in peaceful silence, enjoying the warmth of each other's presence. Both of them knew it had been more time than they'd intended, but neither of them said anything, not wanting to break the relaxed trance that surrounded them.

Tentatively Luz spoke up, "Hey Amity?"

"Mhm?"

She sighed happily. "I wish I could spend every day like this."

Amity smiled. "Me too."

Silence for another few seconds, their hearts beating in sync. Then-

"I love you," Luz whispered.

Amity's smile broadened like sunlight filling up a dark room. "I love you too."

They wrapped their arms around each other, pulling each other in for a short, sweet kiss. When they separated, Amity's expression turned reproachful.

"But now we really should get up."
