"I can't believe the new Good Witch Azura book is out!" Luz squealed, not bothering to hide her elation. "I got it as soon as I could, and read it all in one night. I couldn't help it; I was just so excited!! Azura and Hecate's romantic tension in chapter seven just made me want to fly to the moon."
Amity nodded, her eyes bright. She was just as excited as her girlfriend about the new book, but she displayed her enthusiasm differently. While Luz squealed and ranted and jumped up and down in joy about it, Amity only talked about it to people she knew she could trust—people like Luz. However, when she did, her delighted energy was evident when she spoke.
"I know, right? I actually screamed into my pillow when they got reunited after being apart in battle. Ed and Em were a little concerned," Amity recalled with a grin. She was so caught up in the memory, in fact, that she wasn't looking where she was going. Hearing Luz's sudden sharp intake of breath, she snapped back to the present and looked down, to where the human was staring. Her eyes widened and her mind started racing, worrisome thoughts running through her head like a fast-moving river.
She was standing on grass. But not just any grass; grass that had a wooden sign stuck in it.
A sign that read, "DO NOT STEP ON GRASS".
To her left, a guard slowly rotated his head towards her and gasped, nudging one of his friends next to him. Both of them turned and glared at her.
Amity quickly backpedaled and stepped off the grass, but it was too late. The damage had already been done. The guards had seen her.
Everything was still for a moment, the guards and Amity and Luz frozen in place, waiting to see what would happen next.
Suddenly, the guard who had spotted her charged towards her, with the other one not far behind. Luz let out a small "eep!" and pulled out her glyphs, ready to fight beside Amity.
But then more guards came and crowded around them, drawing circles and cracking knuckles and running at full speed towards them, and there was no way that the two of them could fend off this many at once. Amity frantically swiveled her head around, trying to keep track of all the guards at once.
"Go, Luz!" She called. "Get out of here!"
"I am not leaving you," Luz said doggedly.
Amity shook her head. Luz and her stubborn loyalty! "You should. You didn't do anything wrong, they won't come after you."
"I won't just let them take you away like that," Luz said, and something in her tone was so determined, so set in stone, that she didn't bother arguing back. It wouldn't change her mind.
Amity had estimated correctly. Even with both of them fighting their hardest, there were too many guards for just the two of them to take out. Amity felt her energy slowly dwindling away as she fought, despite her best efforts.
In the blink of an eye Amity was wrapped up in vines and being tossed into the back of a truck, and there was nothing she could do except be stuck alone with her own thoughts. The last thing she heard before the doors slammed shut was Luz's voice shouting, "Amity!"
The whole way there, Amity tried not to let herself think about all the awful things the Emperor could decide to do with her. She tried not to let her tears out, tried not to let her sadness show.
Don't cry. Don't show weakness. You are a Blight, start acting like it.
Her mother's words echoed in her mind, the ghost of words that had been burned into her memory. She took a deep breath.
No. I won't cry, but not because of mother. I won't cry because I need to focus in order to get out of here, and that's never going to happen if I just mope and sit around doing nothing.
Her hands were tied behind her back by her wrists. She figured out that she was able to make circles, and she had her satchel full of abomination goo with her.
But what could she actually do with the abomination goo? It couldn't form into a knife of some sort, like her father's abomitons. It was just condensed goo. (A/N: When I was writing this, I forgot that she can create fire. So let's just say that in the heat of the moment, she panicked a bit and forgot that she had that ability, too.)
She sighed. Is that really what I'm planning on doing with my life? Commanding piles of goo to turn into monsters and do anything I ask it to?
Her train of thought was thrown off-track when she heard a commotion outside. She heard lots of shouting and a few screams, too. What happened? Had they run into something?
Amity yelped as something started burning through the door. Soon there was a hole big enough for someone to fit through, and Luz popped in, beaming.
"Amity!" She exclaimed, tackling her in a hug.
The purple-haired teen laughed. "Hi, Luz. Can you untie me, please?"
"Right! Sorry!" Luz tapped a plant glyph and used the thorns to cut through Amity's ties.
She grinned at the latina. "Thank you. Now let's get out of here."
After a fairly short flight to The Owl House, the two girls were more than willing to crash in Luz's bedroom. As they lay side by side on her mattress (if you could call it that), they looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"That was crazy," Amity said in between giggles. "Who knew you could get in so much trouble for stepping on grass?"
Their laughter subsided, and Luz smiled fondly. "Yeah," she said. "Who knew?"
A/N: No, I totally didn't base Luz's craziness about the new Good Witch Azura book off of my obsession with a new book from another series. What are you talking about?
