Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you

A/N: Inspired by the song New Year's Day by Taylor Swift.

Hey, so it's been a little while. Life has been pretty hectic lately, but I'm still trying to write. There are some one shots in the works, including the request, so please be patient with me!

In the meantime, enjoy this short but sweet oneshot I wrote in like three days.

There's glitter on the floor after the party.

Everyone else has left by now, filled with cake, snacks, and happy memories of last night, but Amity is staying to help Eda, Luz and King clean up.

She leans down to pick up some polaroids they'd taken the night before off the grass, and when she straightens, Luz is in front of her, smiling.

"Thank you guys so much for this," she says. "It means a lot that you put it together for me."

Amity grins back. "Of course we did! You deserved to have a proper quinceañera, after everything you've done to help rebuild." She kisses Luz on the cheek, feeling the delicate fabric of her dress underneath her fingers as she places her hands on Luz's shoulders.

Luz's smile widens into something a bit more bashful. "How long have you been planning this without me knowing?"

Amity mulls over the timeline in her head. "A couple months. We knew your birthday was coming up, and we wanted to make sure you enjoyed celebrating it properly this time. Eda and Camila were the first to propose the idea, but we all agreed pretty quickly."

"Well, thank you. I loved it," Luz says. She reaches out and intertwines their hands, letting the moment hang in the air around them. Amity relishes Luz's hand in hers, warm and grounding; the air around her, warmed by the sun; the faint sound of Eda and King's playful bickering in the background. It's all so familiar and sweet as honey (the human kind), and Amity savours it with all its beautiful nuances, hoping she can hold on to the memory forever.

She's the first one to break, removing her hand from Luz's shoulder. "We should probably clean up."

Luz nods, and they let go of each other's grip. Amity moves to the bottles of apple blood and soda on the table, cleaning up the empty bottles and putting the ones with beverages in them away. Luz works beside her, cleaning and putting away the snack trays on the table. She eats some of the leftovers, offering some to Amity, Eda, and King as well. Eda brags about her baking skills and King points out that he, Hooty, Amity, Willow and Gus did most of the baking, earning him a tickle attack that goes on until he surrenders. The whole time, Luz laughs along, the joy and affection clear on her face, and before she knows it Amity is grinning and laughing along too. Luz's laugh is infectious.

She'll be there, she thinks. When it's hard or when it's wrong. She'll stay, when Luz is the most popular human on the isles and when she's facing rough times. If no one else is by her side, she will be.

She'll hold on to Luz.
