Life is difficult for everyone.

Undeniably, some have it worse than others. However, every person struggles.

That's why the three of them felt they got lucky.

Their families were far from being a home to them. Their lives were chaotic. On some days, they couldn't help but feel frustrated with where they were and where they had been.

Yet at the end of the day, when it was just the three of them, life was okay.

Still messy. But okay.

"Ah hell no," Hayoon screeched. "BRO DON'T--"

"I won't set the table cloth on fire again, promise," Juwon assured her, unsurprisingly calm.

"Wait, wait," Da-eun stopped him. "Give me a second, I want to film this."

He narrowed his eyes at her. "What for?"

"Insurance. I'm not paying this," she mumbled in return before giving him a thumbs up. "Okay, go."

Shaking his head, disapproving of the lack of trust his friends had in him, Juwon just ignored them and continued.

"Can you hand me the matches?" he asked as he poured pure alcohol on the sugary surface of the soon to be crème brulée. He had no torch and he was too lazy to go out of his way to buy one and he had seen this on YouTube before so...

So surely it would work out just fine, right?

"You should just buy a torch," Hayoon judged.

"You should just do it in the kitchen," Da-eun said instead. "Less potential to burn the house down."

"This house won't burn down tonight, stop worrying about it, you idiots," Juwon reassured, yet his wording left the girls wondering.

"What do you mean 'tonight'? Are you planning on burning it down another time?"

Juwon shrugged. "Accidents happen," he deadpanned.

Hayoon looked at Da-eun. "You got that on camera, right?" The younger gave that a curt nod.

"OKAY GUYS! IT'S TIME!" Juwon said excitedly just before he set the alcohol-soaked sugar on fire.

Despite his unmatched confidence earlier, he now took a large step back, gaining more distance from the table than the two girls that were sitting there, waiting for the chef of the house to finish serving the dessert.

"Are you seeing this?" Hayoon gasped, pointing at Juwon who was trying to hide behind Da-eun.

She looked up at him. "If we die, you are going to hell," Da-eun warned him.

He smiled warmly. "See you there, darling."

"Before we all die, can we please quickly talk about Eun lowkey proposing to Chenle?" Hayoon asked, wiggling her eyebrows, completely ignoring the crème brulée that was still busy burning before them.

"YOU DID WHAT?!" Juwon asked, turning to the girl in an instant. "Eun, you don't even know him!" Juwon looked at Hayoon. "I am blaming you."

Hayoon gasped. "Okay, first of all, Chenle seems like a nice guy, okay? He picked her up, cooked with her, and he checks in on her like every day."

It surprised him to hear that. While Juwon had been aware that they texted frequently, he didn't know that they texted daily.

So, just to confirm, Juwon glimpsed at the youngest who gave him a nod. Chenle and Da-eun did, indeed, text pretty much every day. Anything from a quick 'I hope you slept well' to a lengthy discussion about their favourite TV shows could be found in their chat history.
