He was just so tired.
Everyone held their breaking point, and his glued shattered parts simply couldn't be mended any longer.
He couldn't deal with Batman.
He couldn't handle Gotham.
He couldn't face his siblings.
He just wanted to stop.
He knew the JLA would be both understanding and disappointed with him.
He was a flying Grayson, the original Robin and just recently was Nightwing.
He's been fighting to bring a smile to people's face all his life.
He's given up so much to keep family safe and alive and togehter.
He's fought for other's happiness.
But now he was just tired.
He couldn't bring himself to carry on the fight.
He wished he was one of the few that died young instead of being a hero who turned their backs.
He may have been only human, but he was seen as so much more by so many others that it only grew to stand a burden now.
He wasn't strong enough to get back up one last time.
He wanted an escape.
To never be seen again.
To never have to hear them again.
To never hold expectations and fill his strings being pull by those who assumed he'd be willing to move under their control.
He knew he was the emotional support, the big brother, the understanding friend and the light in so much darkness but .. his light had flickered out and the wax of his candle was burned out.
He was done.
He knew he wouldn't have long before he's found.
He knew he wouldn't have long for the rumours to start.
He knew he wouldn't have long before the tone used for his name turned darker, bitter and unforgiving.
He knew he'd be dragged back against his will because he was needed to stay standing.
It's why he hid in plain sight.
In the one place he could safely escape towards without any form judgment.
The last place he felt safe and loved.
Flying was stolen from him, the freedom and joy spoiled by the rest.
He's lost so much but he could selfishly hold into his last escape.
He misses him.
He misses his smile.
He misses his laugh.
He misses his voice.
He misses his warm hands.
He misses his safe heaven hugs.
He misses his intelligence.
He misses his wisdom.
He misses his understanding.
He misses the man he'll always hold as his first and true love.
He's dated since his death, dated before his death.
He might have been able to stand before meta-humans and laugh without any signs of fear but confessing his love was different.
He couldn't risk losing him.
To admit his growing love and admiration to the one person he wanted to cherish for the rest of his life.
He knew he might have held a chance with him, and he knew he was too good of a man to end their friendship due to his own uncontrollable feelings.
But he was scared.
And he watched the one he loves die.
Now, in his death, he stayed as his shield.
Death was silent, loyal and fair to all who fall upon it.
But Death also brought him the peace to escape in curling beside the grave that held the one place he still felt safe.
Death would give him as long as he needed to wait until it was time to join his love one.
It won't judge him for finally breaking down and giving in.
It would simply nod and offer its hand to him.
And as his time wasn't here yet, he left him alone in the silence of death to stay by the one he loves just that little bit longer.
In due time he'd leave the grave.
Gain enough distance to keep it from the shadows that wrapped around him and dragged him back to a life that only drained his heart and light.
He was just too tired to move from his last safety net.
He was just tired.

Night-Shots (Oneshots)
FanfictionThis is a oneshot book that'd cover some of the male ships involving Nightwing/Dick Grayson. I won't cover them all and I'll make sure to add the ship name within the title for everyone to click on the ones they prefer.
