Dick was never adopted by Bruce. He never became a superhero/ Vigilante.
He was left in the junior detention centre for a whole year before commissioner Gordon heard over it and helped place the boy into a decent foster home. Checking on him at least once a month.
Dick joins the police academy as soon as he's old enough and works as a cop in Gotham, wanting to protect the civilians, stop other's from turning into Orphans and try to talk it out with criminals into turning a new leaf.
Rookie Officer Grayson mostly does the night shift and ends up helping newbie Batman every now and then. Making a newly appeared Batman gain a trust/friendship with both commissioner Gordon and Dick Grayson.
Brucie Wayne get's easily spotted as a "fake" by Officer Grayson during a Police charity gala that commissioner Gordon dragged him along. Dick knowing "Brucie" was merely an act by having a keen eye, knowing how to read people and knowing how to play a crowd from his Circus days.
Bruce and Dick get together at first, Batman grows more protective and Dick works out that his partner and his boyfriend is the same man rather quickly but plays the long game. Pretending not to know until Bruce finally came clean.
Mostly with Dick helping out Jason Todd a couple times when he lived on the street and tried to help him out and maybe hinted towards a certain Batmobile being left unsupervised on a certain night due to having a "case" to speak with Batman about. Knowing Batman would catch the teen and knowing Batman was secretly a softy towards Orphans. (He's not dating Bruce just yet when Jason comes along)
Jason learnt quickly he was tricked by his police friend but was too impressed to be mad about it. He was given a home, a new family, food and a better life. Even helped to try and force Bruce to let Dick into their night time life. Jason becoming Robin still due to wanting to show some respect towards the Flying Grayson's and wanting Dick to know that "Robin" could fly again. Using the flying Grayson colours as well. But he wouldn't have had the green panties and proper trousers.
Due to Dick already dating Bruce when Jason learns over his real mother. He helps save Jason from Joker. Jason running straight to Dick and allowing him to check Sheila Haywood out before he goes to see her. Jason calming down in Dick's care and both finding her dealings with Joker. Jason goes and see her, Joker kidnaps him but all under Dick and Batman's knowledge. Both crashing into the hangar before any harm is done to Jason/Robin. Dick arrests Sheila while Batman deals with Joker. (Jason becomes Red Hood still when Tim becomes Robin. Using Joker's old name as a symbol of the middle finger towards the Joker)
Since Bruce has been openly honest over his Batman life. And so, Dick is openly told over it and accepts it with ease in their strange lives. Having him know over the night life when all the other Bat and birds come joining their family. Dick still gives them all their own nicknames.
Jason as Little Wing. Tim as Baby Bird. Damian as Baby Bat. He'd call Cass as Big bat in this and Steph as Birdie. (Duke won't be apart of this story since he's not taken in just yet)
