Roy's is one of the very few who have known the Wayne's the longest.
Known the family for longer than some of the Justice League members themselves did.
He was a friend with Dick early on in their hero life, became Jason's friend later on in life.
Neither Robin nor Speedy had cared if their mentors weren't overly thrilled with their friendship at first. Or had prayed that such friendship could become a form of strong weapon or something stupid like that.
Roy was angry when he lost his friendship with Dick, knew Dick was just as angry and hurt.
But they were both young, both grown up too fast and needed the other to stay a strong figure in their lives to carry on getting up in the morning. Once their scars and breaking points began to show, stayed showing, they just started becoming bad for each other.
Roy would always feel betrayed and outraged over how he lost his friendship with Dick. Knew he'd stay being petty and cruel towards the younger man even though he knew he was as much to blame as the other.
But neither knew how to apologize, no, they did know how. They just also knew how often they've had to apologized to their very own mentors so often to keep the peace that apologizes only left a bitter taste in their mouths when hearing it from someone else.
Because if someone else was able to apologize, why couldn't t heir mentors when they needed an apology the most.
They both knew it was dumb to never do the one thing that would heal their deepest scar, but they'd never forgive the other for being the one to apologize, again. They couldn't accept, both knowing how easily they've grown to say the words to anyone and everyone, even when they weren't at fault.
An apology between them would be seen as an insult, not the regret they both felt.
But he had never lost his true respect for Dick.
For Robin.
For Nightwing.
For his first and oldest friend.
He may have talked shit over him behind his back and to his face, but he still held respect.
He knew who truly knew Dick.
Knew who witness the man's skills, seen his real strength and admired the true man.
Because those who talked bad about him and insulted any part of him, who tried pulling him down and drown him in their words. They never saw the person Dick truly was and didn't earn the honour to know him.
Roy had gained that honour and he had lost it.
Another regret of his.
Another reason he knew they'd never gain their friendship back as deeply as it once were due to having lost such an honour.
But Roy had stayed knowing Dick.
Knew the one secret that none other had learnt so far.
No, Wally knew, but the speeder would never dare say it out loud.
Who was the best Robin?
Their had been five known Robins so far to all of Gotham.
Dick, the original boy wonder.
Jason, the understanding Robin.
Tim, the smart Robin.
Steph, the needing to prove herself Robin.
And Damian, the deadly Robin.
Everyone has argued over who the best Robin were.
Friend's defending their befriend Robin.
Justice League changing their minds so often as they've all been saved or grown up fighting beside different Robin's.
Some judging by rumours alone.
Some deciding on an answer by skill alone.
All Robin's only held whatever Worth the world saw in them.
None had been enough for Batman, all Robin had learnt that much as time passed.
Roy knew the real answer, the only answer to such a dumbass Question.
It was the Robin that once had the whole world in love with them.
It was the Original Robin that brought a blinding light of love and hope.
It was the Robin that left the world growing darker as it was laid to rest.
Roy knew the answer without even having once met such a Robin.
Having fallen in love with the Robin from stories that had lived by the love that people had once held for the boy.
Only one Robin had ever changed a person's life without ever holding the burden of doing the greater good or stopping evil. Just flying to bring joy and safety to all it could fly above.
Who was the best Robin?
That was a pretty easy Question that even the greatest Detectives had failed in answering correctly.
Because the best Robin had and will forever be, the last Flying Grayson.
A bird who had brought pure happiness by simply flying into strangers lives.
A bird who was left to rest with it's parents inside of Haly's Circus big top.
The Flying Grayson's Robin IS the best Robin.
But he had grown overlook by those who had forgotten the Original Robin.
Roy has always and forever will love the best Robin the world has ever met.
And it hurt to know he'd never be able to meet that Robin, no matter how long he waits for that bird of happiness and light to come flying towards him.
The best Robin would never learn to fly again.

FanfictionThis is a oneshot book that'd cover some of the male ships involving Nightwing/Dick Grayson. I won't cover them all and I'll make sure to add the ship name within the title for everyone to click on the ones they prefer.
