Dick didn't hesitate to sign the adoption papers once Damian had found them.

He had thought over making this Robin his son while Bruce was still lost. He just never went through with it and than, Bruce had returned. 

Dick left back to his own city once Bruce was able to wear the cowl again, giving Damian and Bruce space to bond. To be father and son without a third party getting in the way. 

But the pair just seemed to clash against one another. 

Damian would run away to Blüdhaven as soon as the weekend came along and he wouldn't be in trouble for skipping school. Half living in Dick's apartment and only returning back to the manor for school, something Dick had greatly encouraged him to give a try and was so proud when he carried on going. 

It left Dick and Alfred to have a private word over the manor's currently life style. Seemed Bruce and Damian had someone had returned to how they were before Bruce was lost in the time steam. Bruce saw Damian as an Al Ghul, didn't trust him and Damian knew it, didn't trust him back. 

It left Robin being dumped on the other bat's within Gotham. Spoiler, Red Hood and whenever Red Robin was home. The three vigilantes were getting fed up with it too, noticing that the new Robin was slipping back into his earlier days attitude. 

Dick's plan was to speak with Bruce once he'd return from work. Maybe talk over co-parenting Damian. For him to move back to Gotham, into his own apartment, and take Damian for half the week and during patrols at night. 

But Dick never got a spot to speak with Bruce or Batman that night and just returned home to try again another day. When he got home, Damian was sat on his bed, the adoption papers laid beside him. He'd gone snooping again and with Dick only keeping the tucked away in his bedside drawler, it wasn't hard to find. 

Damian was his son. 

Talia and Bruce might have gave him life, but to Dick, they were just some donors.

Damian was HIS son. 

He was Damian's parent. 

Bruce didn't fight over custody, carried on as if Damian never actually arrived and announcing to be his son. It left Dick angry but he shoved such rage deep down, focusing on giving a decent and happier life to his son instead. 

He didn't want to leave Blüdhaven but Damian's life was in Gotham. Gotham academy was only IN Gotham. Colin, Damian's new friend he's gained was in Gotham. The rest of the bats would be in Gotham. 

So, Dick moved to the outer lines of Gotham. Getting a decent three bedroom that he could afford on his gymnastics' teachings pay. Letting Damian chose his own bedroom before helping to fix it up whoever he wanted it to be. Leaving the third room as guest room for any of the bats needing a break from the manor or needed a place to lay low after getting hurt. He'd also be letting Colin use it, letting the boy's have a sleep over during the weekends.  

Dick made a life for himself, felt out fatherhood, and began a new life for both of them. 

Nightwing would patrol both Gotham and Blüdhaven. Leaving on the edge of the city made the drive an hour instead of two, more so with Nightwing's own hero bike. Robin appearing in both cities by his side, randomly mixing up the days on when they'd patrol what one of the two cities to stop any criminals from getting use to a pattern.
