Roy grew up in the hero world from a young age.

He chose to save lives than chase skirts.

He chose to stop evil than go out with friends.

Roy didn't regret the days he stood with a mask.

But that didn't mean he didn't love such domestic nights like this one.

It was October 30th, night before Halloween.

Costumes were hanging up on the back of doors, waiting to be slipped on and fitted as soon as everyone had returned home from school and work tomorrow.

A bright orange Halloween plate laid on the recently cleared end table kept behind the front door, filled with two bags of unopened candy waiting to be ripped open and left to cover the witch's face on the plate.

Spider's, Ghosts and Bat's led lights have had their batteries checked and were ready to be hanged up along the handmade wooden arch just a few steps from their front door. Turned on once it was dark to catch those craving sweets attention and let them come crawling to their door.

Movies picked from weeks earlier, kept in a pile and ready to be watched after trick and treating. Children and adult scary films to leave them jumping at shadows that wouldn't be hiding any bats. Leaving the spooky night lasting even when the youngest falls from her sugar rush and passes out.

And lastly, the pumpkin, or well, pumpkins this year.

A big family sized one and a baby pumpkin both chosen to sit by the steps outside their front door. Both being carved and given their own faces and personality. Pumpkin guts thrown over the trays they were working on, sat on the floor and thankfully not stained the carpet so far.

Knives kept pointed away and only the baby pumpkin held a few bits of marker from where the face and hat had been drawn out before a knife went near it. The bigger pumpkin looking skilfully carved and crafted.

The baby looked like a vampire, pointed teeth with triangle eyes. A bigger triangle nose and some big square eyebrows above the eyes. The name Shoes scribbled on the lid, a name given to the pumpkin for all of it's one night of glory.

The bigger pumpkin was more scarily but innocent. It wouldn't frighten any small children completely but it gave more of a bite than the messily done baby pumpkin would. It was made to look more like a werewolf about to jump out and bite at the ankles of those who dared stepped foot near their home.  Raptor scribbled on the larger lid, the name given for this year's pumpkin.
