Side Note: This is kinda an Au where Dick wasn't taken in by Bruce and was raised in Blüdhaven instead by a retired hitman, (He took raising Dick as a chance to return for his life of death), after escaping from the juvenile detention centre. He still became nightwing, having met Superman when he was a teen during a visit to Gotham and the hero was helping Batman out on a case. He spoke to Superman who found him on a roof, assuming he was planning to do something stupid, but Dick just liking high places. Using the roof to think clearly and take in the view of Gotham. Hearing Superman story over Nightwing and silently deciding to stand as a Vagilante.
Side Note 2: The age gap between Bruce and Dick will be about eight years in this oneshot. The rest of the batfam will be much younger in this. Not every batkid will be a superhero/vigilante just yet. I like to think Dick would have the whole "Not until your fourteen rule" for them all. It'd give them a chance to have a childhood and a few extra years to train and slowly gain the needed muscle strength without damaging their growing bodies so much.

He wasn't planning to allow his secret to become known to anyone who knew over Batman. A small handful knew but they were already apart of the secret and knew to keep it hidden.
Batman was paranoid.
Everyone knew that fact, his comrades and his enemies knew it.
So, not even the Justice League got to learn about such a secret. A deep secret he'd keep hidden and even expose his own identity to keep it a secret. The secret was deemed more important than anything else in his life because it was his whole world, his reason to keep breath in his lungs.
He wasn't a self-sacrificing idiot, if he died than he couldn't keep criminals off the streets of Gotham. But he's given his life to save Gotham, to save the people and the planet if there wasn't another choice.
But he wouldn't allow himself to die so easily unless that was the final move left for him to make and that's because he gained a reason to return to the cave each and every night. Even if he returns injured or barely conscious, he'll return to his secret with air still in his lungs.
But now that secret was in danger.
He couldn't protect it by himself anymore.
And God! Did he try to keep it safe, to guard it with everything he had but it still wasn't enough anymore.
He had to ask help, not matter how much his pride or stubbornness tried to stop him he still asked for such help.
His family.
The bat clan had grown in numbers as the years passed.
