Jacob"Congratulations Miss Gonzales, you are pregnant." I froze and my heart dropped. She's pregnant... With my child... And we... I haven't even broken things off with Leena. Leena had no idea that the baby was mine. She's going to hate us. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to say to her... The doctor realized the deep silence, "We are going to send you for an ultrasound so we can have an idea how far along you are. Then you can call your obgyn tomorrow and schedule an appointment." With that he turned around and left. The nurse that tested her before had came in with a wheelchair. "Since you've had moments of dizziness we'll have to have you sit here, as we take you to the ultrasound room." Paola nods and with the help of the nurse and Leena, she sat on the wheelchair. "Can they come as well?" The nurse gave her a sad smile, "Only one person can go with you." Before anyone could say anything, Leena had spoken up. "You can go Jacob." Paola and I both looked at her in question. "Why?" Paola asked before I even had a chance to. But Leena didn't say a word. The nurse noticed the awkward silence and had broken it. "Ok, so let's go check on the baby."
My mind wondered as we walked to the ultrasound room. My legs were moving on their own and my mind and heart were somewhere else. I was hurting but not for me... But for Leena. I never wanted to be the one to hurt her. Even if I knew I was still hurting her, specially when I would have went and told her about Paola and I, but this... This is beyond just dating her best friend. This is beyond betrayal. The pain I caused her would be beyond repair. What have I done...
I was brought out of thought when the nurse was explaining what they'll be doing to Paola. They laid her down, moved her gown, put a jelly on her belly and put a wand on her lower belly. And it wasn't hard to see... There was my baby. A tear escaped my eye, and ran down my face. "You are eleven weeks pregnant. Baby is the size of a lime." The nurse said a few other things but I couldn't hear anything.
They finshed, we got her back on the wheel chair, and headed back to the room. It was completely silent the whole walk there. And when we walked in, Leena was gone. Where did she go?
