Jasleena

Luka said he'd drive so I spent most of the drive sleeping. I woke up just about thirty minutes away. "Luka? Would you be ok if he shows up?" He took a quick glance at my direction and chuckled. "As long as he doesn't say or do anything to you, I'll be on my best behavior." I nodded and rested my head on the window. "Thank you." I didn't look in his direction, just remained looking at the road. "What for?" Still staring out at the view, "For just being you. Caring and loving me for me. You're amazing." I finally looked in his direction and he had a smile on his face. "Anything for you my lady." We both started laughing. We continued to talk and laugh. Next thing you know we were pulling into my parents house. I saw my mother peeking through the blinds. She was so excited when I told her Luka would be joining me.

Before we even reached the door, it was swung open. And of course it was my mother. "Leena!!" She hugged me then looked over my shoulder. "And you must be Lukas!" She let me go and went to hug Luka. He hugged her back, "It is very nice to meet you Mrs. Miles." She scoffed, "Please call me Maria or Ma if you'd like. Don't make me feel old now child." We all laughed and made our way in. "HUNNY! Our child is here!" There she was yelling for my dad as always. He finally came to the living room and hugged me. "Dad this is Lukas, Luka this is my dad." Dad was eyeing him up and down, even sideways if that's possible. With everything I went through with Jacob, he's a bit suspicious. "It's very nice to meet you Mr. Miles." He stuck his hand out to shake dads. Dad nods and shakes his hand. "I've heard a lot about you and your wife." Luka tried getting a word out of dad but nothing. My dad had given him a tight smile and walked out of the living room. "He'll come around." Mom said with a giggle. I nodded and smiled to reassure him it'll be ok. My sisters came and said hello. I introduced Luka to them and we all just went about the day.

Dinner time was nice and peaceful. Full of conversations and laughter. Dad finally spoke to Luka and things were way more comfortable between everyone. Luka went to talk sports with dad while I helped mom in the kitchen, cleaning up. "Will they be coming?" I wanted to know, so I could be ready for whatever. "Yes, you know it's always been a tradition." I nodded, "Do you think Jacob would show up?" She paused her task at hand for a few seconds but then continued. Well that was weird. "Uhm.. I don't think so. Uh, I think you should talk to your Tia when she comes since you don't want to talk to Paola." That's weird, why would I have to talk to her? "Mom, what's going on? You're being weird." She tried laughing a bit to lighten the situation but it made it weirder. "Just talk to your Tia child. It is never my place to speak about their situation." I wonder what had her that way. It was so weird.
