Luka

Lila was six months old and we decided to celebrate her half a year. So on Sunday, which was our usual family dinner, we’ll have her have her first cupcake to herself. Lily has been doing so much better. She started interacting with everyone a bit more and smiling way more often than before. She’s realizing that my love for her hasn’t changed and wouldn’t change. She agreed on not returning to work this school year. I wanted her to completely heal before going back to work. Not just heal physically, but mentally and emotionally. Work for me has been ok, I had days where I worked in the office and other days where I’d just work from home. So far so good on everything. Just beyond grateful that everything is slowly but surely falling into place.

Sunday came along and we were having dinner. Jake and his family joined us and so did both our parents. Paola couldn’t make it. She had some work thing going on. It was a nice evening. We had dinner together and then watched as Lila enjoyed her cupcake. After dinner everyone left. I helped Lily bathe Lila and put her to bed. We cleaned up the minor messes together. “Luka?” I looked in her direction. “Yes?” She looked at me a bit sad. “Do you think Paola is hiding something? She hasn’t come to visit in a little while and every time I invite her she has some excuse on why she can’t make it…” I could tell it was seriously bugging her. “I’m not sure, love. Maybe she’s just going through something and isn’t ready to talk about it yet. She’ll come around love. If you’re so concerned, why don’t you call her tomorrow?” She gave a slight smile and nodded. “Thanks, maybe I will.”

After cleaning and bathing ourselves we laid down and cuddled. “Luka?” I hummed. “We have to start planning Lila’s first birthday. Do we want to do a huge party or do we want to do something small? I mean I know our parents would say big but what would you like?” I thought about it for a bit. “Well, it isn’t like she’s old enough to have a bunch of friends. Also, she isn’t going to remember anything about this first birthday party. So, how about we do a small backyard bbq. Rent out a bounce house that her and Bell can enjoy.” She smiled and nodded. “Sounds perfect to me.” She kissed me on the cheek and I chuckled. “That's all?” She laughed. We made out. Made love and fell asleep in eachothers arms.
