Jasleena
Mom was right, she didn't come. My feelings were split. I was relieved because I didn't have to see her just yet after everything I found out. But I was also really sad because she's in such a bad place she's keeping herself away. It reminded me of the times I canceled my visits because I just couldn't face everyone. I didn't want to explain myself to everyone that asked. Neither did I want them to feel bad for me. The days where I questioned my importance to everyone. I can never compare my pain to hers. Because the people I lost are still here. She lost someone she will never get back. She lost the life she was bringing into this world. I can't imagine what that felt like.
I was brought out of my thoughts as Luka grabbed my hand. He came close to my ear and whispered. "You ok love?" I nodded. We were sitting at the dinner table. After dinner we were all in the living room. Spanish music blasting through the house. Mom and dad were dancing together and so were Tia and Tio. It was nice to see. My mind kept drifting to Paola. I got up, "I'm going for some air." I told Luka and headed to the back porch.
I was out there for a good ten minutes before I heard the door. I didn't look to see who it was, I just simply sat there. Hearing the footsteps that approached me. The person sits down and takes a deep breath. "You ok Leena?" It was Yaz. "I saw you step away and gave you a few. But I guess Luka felt what I felt. That you were out here for some time already and might need someone. I told him I'll come out. He's really good for you, you know." I gave her a sad smile. "He is." I agreed. "Sometimes I think he's too good for me. That I don't deserve him." She looked at me weirdly. "Leena, you are one of the most amazing people I've ever met. How are you not worthy of having someone treat you just as good as you treat others?" I didn't expect that. "Leena, you don't see how great you are but that's one of the biggest things I love about you." She laughed, "I can't believe I just told you that." We both were laughing. "Thank you Yaz." She nodded. "What's wrong?" I knew she'd eventually ask. "I think I might go see Paola tomorrow." She looked at me surprised. I mean I didn't blame her, I was surprised myself. She was so tongue tied that all she said was "Ok." With her eyes still huge. "I'm going inside." I got up and headed in before she could say anything else.
