Hear Your Voice

Y/N POV

Qrow pokes at the fire sending embers into the air.

Qrow: "Most people call it a fantasy. Say it's impossible to escape death. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you. But one thing is for certain. A very powerful person is looking for the pillar of eternity. And I'm afraid they've already claimed it."

We become afraid.

Jaune: "Does that mean we lost already?"

Qrow: "No. Thankfully Oum has our backs on this one. See the pillar of eternity is inert right now."

Ren: "Why?"

Qrow: "The tinkerer was smart. He knew the pillar would draw the attention of the world. So he put a failsafe on it. It's a very complex machine. Therefore you need another equally complex machine to turn it on. And right now that's what the enemy's looking for. The key to the pillar."

Ruby: "Meaning we still have time. Where is this pillar?"

Qrow: "No one knows."

Nora: "So we're just running in circles."

Qrow: "Not quite. I got a tip saying that an ancient relic is being held at Haven."

Ren: "You think it's the key?"

Qrow: "It's a possibility. Which is why we need to get to Haven and get that relic before the enemy catches wind of this tip too."

He stands up. 

Qrow: "That's enough for stories. Get some sleep. We're leaving at first light."

We nod. I take watch for the night. Around midnight I sigh looking at my hands. I deploy Penny's sword looking it over. I look at her emblem lightly rubbing it.

Y/N: "I miss you Penny. So, so very much. I wish I could hear your voice just one more time."

One of my systems beeps. I investigate finding a long list of files.

Y/N: "What're these?"

I open the oldest one. I smile seeing a video of Penny. 

Penny: *on video* "Here we are. Hour one of building Y/N's body. We've just completed the basic sketch. Now we've gotta make the pieces. Wish us luck.

I play the video two hours later.

Penny: "Hour three. We've assembled the torso. Y/N's running tests to make sure everything's holding up."

I switch to one thirty minutes later. This one has Penny sneaking to me, who's in rest mode.

Penny: "He overloaded his circuits. He's working so hard to make his dream come true. I really hope all of this works."

She lightly kisses the top of my head.

Penny: "Keep up the good work Y/N. It'll pay off."

I close the list feeling joy. But my eye bugs out. The glitch spreads all across my body making everything bug out. The world then goes black as my systems crash.

3rd POV

The sun rises bringing the heroes out of slumber. But the second they do they hear whirring. They look to see Y/N twitching.

Ruby: "Y/N!!!"

She runs to his side. 

Ruby: "What's wrong!? Talk to me!"

Y/N: *out of pitch* "Systems... overloading!!! Seek immediate... repairs!"

Ruby: "Help me Jaune."

They throw his arms over their shoulders. They then carry him down the road. As they do Ruby looks at him hearing a beeping noise.

Jaune: "What's going on with him?"

Ruby: "I don't know. But we need to get him some help as soon as possible."

Qrow: "But there's no telling when we'd hit a town with a decent technician."

Ruby: "I can work on him. I just need tools."

Jaune: "Good luck finding those out here."

Ren stops running to a road sign.

Ruby: "What's it say?"

Ren: "Only that our path leads us up through the mountains."

Qrow: "We won't be able to make that climb while carrying him."
