"I saw you on the news." Penny states from the doorway. "I wanted to see for myself that you were ok."
I place the boxes on the floor beside me and stand back up to my original height. "Yeah, I'm ok. How are you?"
"I'm just glad that you caught them, that we finally know who did it."
"Do you want to sit?" I ask motioning to the living room.
She nods once in response. Jackson puts down his boxes and we follow her into the living room, she's already been here loads of times before so she needs to instructions as to where it is.
"I wanted to thank you. For doing this, I know it couldn't have been easy. If you ever need anything at all then I'm here for you." She says. "The police told me what happened. What my own sister did to the love of my life."
"I'm sorry that you had to find out over the news, I should've-"
"Mariana that could've ended very differently. I'm not mad at you for not telling me sooner, I know you've had a lot on your plate, I'm just...." She takes a long exhale. "...in shock I guess. I was really scared for you. You looked completely broken."
"Finding out your parents are murderers does that to you." I joke.
"How's your dad doing? I heard he's in the hospital."
I shrug. "He's alive and awake, that's all I know."
"You haven't been to see him?" She asks.
"No. If I go there it just makes everything ten times more real. I mean what would I even say? I don't forgive him for his part in this."
"I don't forgive him either, I don't think I ever fully will but at least he feels guilty about what he did, he knows it was wrong."
"He's still a dick." Jackson says from beside me.
"I don't disagree with that." Penny laughs. "So where are you off too?" She says looking around at the boxes.
"I'm moving in with Jackson."
"Really? Couldn't you have just bought this house yourself if you wanted?"
"I could've probably pulled some strings but don't want to live here anymore. It doesn't feel like home."
"Makes sense."
"Are you planning on staying long or are you going back to Miami soon?"
"It was kind of a sudden trip so I'm flying back tomorrow. I wish I could stay here but I don't have a job that I love or even a house to live in." She says. "It's nice to be able to come back though. Maybe someday it can be more permanent."
"I wanted to ask you something."
"Go for it."
"Everyone will find out soon that Ira owned the company. I'd like to make the announcement rather than the police or anyone else, is that ok with you?"
