Meredith.

today is the day the kids get to meet Derek. I told the kids about it a few nights ago at dinner. they didn't really seem to understand which I didn't expect them to.

Nathan and I talked about it for the week, he still doesn't like the idea of Derek meeting them and I don't entirely either.

I do admit I do still love Derek but I don't think I'm in love with him because I'm in love with Nathan. I just want Derek to be happy and even though Nathan doesn't really understand I still want them to have a chance to meet their biological father.

I know Derek doesn't deserve it but what if one day the kids find out Nathan isn't their biological father and they want to meet him, they'll most likely resent me for not having them meet him earlier and even though my father left when I was a kid I still wanted an reason why he left or what happened, I still wanted to know what kind of person he was, and now I know. I always wondered as a kid and I don't want my kids to have that wonder either even though they already have a father.

we got lucky with Nathan.

I didn't start regretting what happened with Derek until the morning after, when I really processed what happened. what the hell was I thinking sleeping with Derek?

I think I just wanted to know how it felt or something, I don't know but from now on he's only the man who wants to get to know my kids.

I've already apologized for what I said during the argument, making it sound like him and Derek were equals, etc.

"Do I get to go with you when he meets them?" Nathan asks. we're in living room getting ready to take the twins to the park to meet Derek.

"If you can behave nicely and not argue or fight with Derek then yes you can come with," I say.

"How am I supposed to do that?" he asks.

"let me do the talking, do you want to meet Derek?" I ask.

"I've already met him," he says.

"Yes, as a surgeon, not as... whatever he is to you," I say.

"How often does he want to see them?" he asks.

"Um, every weekend or every other weekend," I say.

"excuse me?" he says.

"I'm not sure yet, we'll talk about it at the park, I'll let you know. do you want to come with or not?" I ask.

"no, I think it would be safe for him if I went," he says.

"Nathan," I say.

"Meredith, seriously, why are you letting him back into your life, my life, the twins life?" he says walking closer to me.

"if you were a child and you were up with a father and one day you found out he's not your real father, your biological father wouldn't you wish your mom at least gave him a chance to be in your life?" I ask.

"Not if it's Derek after what he did," he says.

"I know, I don't mean from your point of view, I mean from Miles point of view, or Mallory, Mallory's a sweet kid she would want him to have a chance, if I said no to Derek it would make it sound like I don't want him in their lives, which I don't but the kids would probably disagree... I just don't want them to resent you or me in the future, that's why I'm doing this," I say.

"Are you sure it's not because you're still in love with him" he asks.

"Do I still care about Derek and want what's best for him, yes, I love him but I'm not in love with him," I say.

"what does that mean?" he asks.

"it means I love him like a friend, I care about him because deep down he's a good person, I know it's hard to see because.. he's hard-headed and he's having a hard time.. it's hard to explain but I know Derek.. he's not as bad as he comes off as and I want the twins to have a chance to know their biological father and if he ends bad then at least their too young to remember," I say.

"Fine, tell me everything when you get back," he says.

"Okay," I kiss him before going to get the kids.

"Are you two ready yet?" I ask them. they nod.

Mallory's wearing a black dress with short sleeves and Miles is wearing a black shirt with jeans.

"Okay, grab your coats and put your shoes on," I say. they go and put their coats and shoes on.

once the twins are ready I get them in the car and drive to the park to meet Derek.

"Daddy's not real Daddy?" Mallory asks.

"Daddy is your real Daddy, you have two Daddies," I tell her. she looks a little confused but she nods.

"New Daddy mean?" Miles asks.

"No, honey, he's going to be nice to you, if you don't like him then you can tell me but you two get to play at the park and him and I will talk a bit... if you're too shy to talk to him then that's okay but I want you two to tell me how you feel when you get back.. if you don't like him then you can tell me, okay?" I say. they nod and I drive to the park.
