Meredith.

Derek and I have arrived in New York a couple of hours ago.

When Carolyn heard we had arrived the first thing she wanted to do was see the kids.

So Derek and I brought the kids over there. He spoke to her about our plans on moving and how we were thinking about moving to New York and she loved the idea of course.

After a bit, she told us that we should go back to the hotel and settle in and everything and leave the kids with her.

We did that and we also took advantage of the alone time to take a shower and have a few rounds of hot sex before taking a short nap, well I did.

Derek doesn't get as tired as I do and being pregnant makes it harder.

"Do you think we should pick up the kids from your moms yet? I don't want to leave them any longer with her than she wants," I say as I'm sitting against the headboard a few minutes after I've woken up.

"Meredith, we haven't even looked at any houses yet," he chuckles. "Right, sorry," I say. "My mom loves the twins, you don't have to worry about it, she raised five kids alone, two two year old's is nothing for her," he says.

"Did you like growing up here? bad memories, bad childhood?" I ask. Derek should know best when it comes to New York, he grew up here, and I know what it's like to grow up in Boston.

"Yeah, I mean there's some bad memories but I don't blame New York for it, but other than that, yeah I had a pretty good childhood," he said.

"What about Boston, what was it like growing up there?" he asks. "it was a good place to grow up, I walked home from school many times alone when I was a child and I never got kidnapped, good people," I say.

"so what are we basing our choices off of?" he asks. "Whatever's best for the kids. schools, I want the kids in good schools, I want them to grow up in a place where they can have an easy and good childhood," I say.

"What about Hospitals, work?" he says. "Both New York and Boston have some of the best hospitals so I'm not really too worried about that," I say. "Okay," he nods.

"What about the neighbourhood? and the house?" he asks. "we need a big house, four or five bedrooms, backyard. good neighbourhood, I want to be able to let the kids let outside alone without worrying about them getting kidnapped or mauled by an animal," I say.

"so a neighbourhood we can trust?" he says. "Yes," I say.

"Okay, we have to leave in an hour to see the first house, I'm already ready so you probably start getting ready," he says. "be careful when you stand up," he says.

-

we get back from seeing a couple of houses, they were nice houses but they weren't what we were looking for, Derek says he wants to rent a temporary house, I don't know why he only wants a temporary house but for the moment we're looking for a house we can live in for up to a year or two and then we'll decide on a house we want to live in forever.

"I watched your face the entire time we were there, you didn't like any of them very much did you?" He says.

"No, they were nice houses but I couldn't really see us and the kids living there, you know?" I say as I put my things down.

"Yeah, and they did seem a little small for three kids," he says.

"How long have we been gone?" I ask sitting down on the bed.

"Four hours," he checks his watch.

"We should probably get the kids, they've been there for over six hours," I put my coat back on.

"My mother hasn't said anything," he says as he checks his phone.

"Then let's go over there and see for ourselves," I grab the keys from his pocket and leave through the front door.

"Fine," he sighs. "We're going to have another in a couple of months, you can't be this tired of the twins already if we're going to have another," I say.

"That's not what I'm saying," he says as we walk through the hotel hallway.

"You've been a father for what? Seven, eight months and you're already tired of it.. once you understand you can't just come and leave as you please you won't want to leave your kids with someone else for half of the day," I say.

"Meredith-"

"All I'm saying is if you leave after this one is born you're not getting another chance, I don't care if I have to do it alone,"

"You still haven't forgiven me for that?" He asks.

"Forgiven you after you left me alone with two newborn babies for the wife that almost killed me? No, it's a little hard to forgive and forget when someone does that, when you came back I wanted the kids to know their real father and of course, I was still in love with you.. that doesn't mean what you did wasn't wrong, no matter what the reason is," I say.

"Meredith, that's not what I meant," he says as we get to the exit of the hotel.

"Whatever," I walk out of the hotel and to the car. I get inside the driver's seat and start the car.

"Are we going to talk about this first?" He gets into the passenger seat.

"No, we're going to go pick up the kids whether you like it or not," I pull out of the parking lot.

"Oh my God, Meredith, that's not what I meant by it!" He groans.

We get on to the road and I drive to Derek's mother's house.
