Meredith

I get back from the bathroom and I see the twins and Theo eating at the kids table.

"Meredith, how far along are you, Shepherd won't tell me," Burke says.

"she didn't tell me either, I don't know," Derek says.

"Four months, five in twelve days" I say.

"And you didn't feel the need to tell me that?" Derek says.

"You didn't ask me, you were at the conception, you know how to count," I say as I get the kids something to drink.

"Cristina and I have been talking about having another child, but she keeps changing the subject to surgery," he says.

"Cristina does that with everything, when I tried telling her I was pregnant with the twins she told me to wait for later until she was done talking about her surgery," I say. I walk over to the kids and place water in front of Mallory, Miles, and Theo.

"Shepherd, was this baby planned?" Burke asks Derek as Derek's walks over to me.

"No, none of our kids were planned," he says as he stands behind me and wraps his arms around my stomach, resting his hands on my swollen stomach.

"But you've never been been upset any of the times you found out about another baby?" He asks.

"No, I was surprised the first time and when we found out the twins were twins.. and this time but no, never upset," he kisses the side of my head.

"Cristina wasn't supposed happy when she found out about Theo, she threw a glass at my head," Burke says.

"Cristina grew up an only child, when she thought about having a child she only ever imagined having one.. and when she found out I was having twins she got scared," I say before glancing at Cristina. She gives me a thumbs up.

"What are you doing?" Derek's whispers in my ear.

"Helping Cristina,"

"With?"

"Her marriage," I say. He hesitates a bit before he nods.

"Are you two done having children, you will have three and two of them are toddlers," he says.

"I don't know... I think maybe another in a couple years but for now we're just going to try to manage three children and see how that goes," Derek says.

"I've spoke to Cristina about having a second but she seems scared... you had two at once, and Theo's a great child and pretty much takes care of himself so i didn't think taking care of another child would be too much," he says.

"Why are kids such a big deal," Cristina groans.

"Because we're adults, and we're married, children is all we have left," Burke says.

"we have children, what do we need another one for?" she says.

"we have a child, not children," he says.

"I still don't understand why we need multiple," she rolls her eyes.

"I'm getting tired and my muscles are sore," I lean back into Derek's chest.

"Do you want to go lay down? you have been pretty busy lately," he says.

"I would like to but I want to be with you and someone needs to stay with the kids," I say.

"Cristina is here," he says.

"Cristina doesn't want to watch the kids.. and they're going to take a nap soon so I'll lay down when they're napping," I say.

"Okay, I'll lay with you when they're asleep," he says into my neck.

Burke and Cristina are in the middle of arguing when Theo interrupts them.

"Mommy, I have to go potty," Theo says as he walks over to Cristina.

"Fine. No more more kids, if we do, you're taking care of them and waking up in the middle of the night, not me," Cristina says as she leaves the room with Theo.

"We should get going, Theo's getting tired, Cristina's getting grumpy, they both need a nap," Burke says before leaving the room to get Theo's things.

"I should probably go put the twins down too," I say. I pull away from Derek and take the twins into their rooms.

I get them dressed into their pyjamas and tuck them into bed.

I leave their room and turn off the lights. I go into the living and see Derek sitting on the couch.

"You want to go lay down now," Derek says as he looks at me.

"You look tired,"

"Yes," I say before we go into our room.

I get dressed into more comfortable clothes as get in bed. Derek gets in bed next to me after he changes.

"What if the kids wake up early?" I ask as I lay my head on his chest and start to close my eyes.

"I'll care of them for you, you need your rest," he says.

"So do the kids, they've been up all day running around and screaming, I don't understand how they have all the energy for it," I sigh.

"because their mother makes them go to bed at eight pm and take naps during the day. you should start taking a nap when the kids go down.. and maybe after, I'll keep them quiet until you wake up," he says.

"I'll be fine," I say tiredly.

"You're not, you're four months and you're always sick, you're always very pale, and you get lightheaded very easily, you should be taking it slow so you don't faint or get sick... maybe even take some time off work... not for good, just not so many shifts," he says.

"yeah, yeah, whatever," I yawn.

"Alright. go to sleep," he kisses my head and I do just that.
