This takes place at the beginning of season 2. After Meredith found out about Derek wife and is trying to move on from him. But something comes up might change her life forever.
Derek and I have decided we want to get married here, right now here in Italy.
We decided we were going to be eloping, we already have the kids here and we bought the girls pretty dresses they can wear and we bought Miles a nice tux.
We didn't think of the idea ourselves. We were out at dinner with the kids and we were talking about us getting married.
Mallory brought up the idea of us getting married in Italy. It got us thinking and we really liked the idea.
I've never liked the idea of a big expensive wedding, the only people I really need there are Derek and the kids.
We can get eloped in Italy and I'm sure we can find someone who will do it in English.
We've already talked about a wedding with Derek's family so they're probably going to expect a wedding but we'll just have to tell them once we get back.

"This is how you get married?" Mallory asks. We're in the car driving to the courthouse.
"Well, there's different ways to get married, it just depends on what people want," Derek says.
"You want it this way?" She asks. We already explained how getting married in a courthouse works. She's not the biggest fan of the idea.
"Yes, it's just easier this way," I say. "I don't get to dance?" She says. "You always dance," Miles rolls his eyes.
"You can dance back at the hotel," Derek says. "With music," she says pointing her index finger in the air.
"With music," he smiles and nods. We arrive at the courthouse. Derek helps the girls out while I help Miles.
"Why isn't Grandma coming?" Miles says skipping while holding my hands.
"This is... this is going to be a little wedding, or marriage kind of thing," I say.
"Huh?" He looks up at me. "I don't know, ask Daddy," I say.
"Daddy?" He asks. "You'll when we get in there," Derek says. "Okay," he says.

"I do," I say. He leans in and presses his lips against mine as Mallory and Miles both start clapping.
We smile pulling away. He takes his hand in mine as he picks up Hope's carrier and we leave with the kids.
I help the twins into the car while Derek buckles Hope's car seat.
I get into the passenger's seat and Derek gets into the driver's seat and pulls out of the driveway.
"Why do love people kiss?" Mallory asks looking out the window.
"Love people?" I chuckle. "People in love," she says. "Well... kissing is a way people who are in love show they love each other," I say.
"Why the lips, boy mouths are yucky," she grimaces.
"Yes but love is also about trust, you have to trust that they brush their teeth twice a day once you get to know them," I say.
"You and Daddy brush your teeth two times a day?" She says. "Yes," I say.
"If he didn't, you won't love him?" She says. "No, no, probably not," I giggle.
"You know my mothers going to kill us when we get back and she sees that second ring on your finger," Derek says.
"It's nothing personal, it was just us and the kids, and it was Mallory's idea," I say. "She won't be offended," I say.
"Well at least there's still Amelia's wedding to go to," he says.
"Yeah, what's the name of the guy she's dating?" I say. "James, James Peterson," he says.
"Yeah, maybe she'll marry him," I say. "I'm not sure Amelia's going to be settling down anytime soon," he says.
"You never know with Amelia, she always finds a way to surprise you," I say.
"I don't know, she seems pretty serious about this guy, she wants to marry him, have children. She wants the whole package," he says.
"She did seem pretty serious, I was surprised," I say. "Yeah but who knows how long it'll last, one second she wants to be a mother, the next she wants to be high as a kite," he says.
"Derek, not in front of the kids," I say. "I'm just saying she's a mystery," he sighs.
"You always thought I was a mystery, you still married me," I say. "That's because you weren't shooting heroine in the next room," he says.
"You don't shoot heroin," I say. "What do you know about heroin?" He says. "More than you do," I say.
"Did you-" he says looking at me. "No, I had a roommate in college who was big on the junkie college experience," I say.
"Oh, as long as you weren't doing heroin," he says. "No, I was just doing Molly instead," I say. He looks at me shocked.
"I never did drugs, don't worry. I only smoked a few cigarettes here and there but I haven't in ten years," I say.
"We'll talk about that later," he says as we drive back to the hotel.
