Meredith.

I wake up and see Derek sitting in the chair next to me. "What is it?" I ask as I carefully sit up.

"It's a baby, you gave birth, remember?" he says with a concerned look.

"No," I giggle. "I mean the gender," I say.

"Oh, it's a girl," he says. I smile. "really?" I say. "Yeah, do you want to hold her?" he says. "Yeah," I nod.

he stands up and walks over to me with the baby. he carefully places her in my arms. "she's dressed and her diapers are smaller than my hand," he says.

I smile down at her as I place my hand on her head and gently push her hat off. "Finally a blonde," I smile with tears in my eyes.

"She's beautiful, you did great," he wraps his arm around my shoulder and kisses the side of my head.

"I remember when the twins were born I was scared, I was terrified that I wouldn't make it or they wouldn't make it or I just simply wouldn't be able to be a mother or that I would end up being exactly like my mother... but I don't feel that with her, I don't feel scared anymore," I say as tears start spilling from my eyes.

"I'm sorry you had to go through so much because of me," he says as he sits down on the spot next to me. "It's okay... it was all worth it to get here," I smile. I can't seem to take my eyes off of her beautiful little face.

"Are we still going with the name we picked out for a girl?" he asks. "No, Alice is a beautiful name but it's not hers," I say.

"So what do you want to call her?" he says. "Hope, all I ever needed to do was have hope that everything was going to work out, that all the hard times would be worth, when I was a child, when I found out you were married, when Addison came to the house, all I needed was to have hope that everything would work out in the end... and it did. Everything that I went through brought me to where I am now, there was always a reason, this day was always supposed to happen, you were supposed to be married when we start dating... it's all part of God's plan," I say.

"Hope it is," he smiles. "It's perfect," he says. "How much longer until we can go home?" I ask as I carefully lean back onto the bed.

"two days, but you and the baby both need to wear diapers, you're going to be bleeding a lot.. like a lot so you'll have to wear them until the bleeding stops and you'll need to use this thing to pee," he says as he picks up a peri bottle.

"Yes, do you know how it works?" I say. "No, do you shove it up there and syringe the urine out?" he asks. "You're a surgeon," I say.

"Of brains, not vaginas," he says. "You fill it with warm water and squeeze the water out while you pee so it doesn't burn so much," I say.

"But you didn't have to use one with the twins right?" he says. "No, and I also didn't have to wear adult diapers so that's going to be new too," I say.

"You've worn diapers before, you wear them to bed sometimes," he says. "why would you think that?" I ask. "because when you move in your sleep I can hear it," he says.

"sanitary pads, not diapers, Derek," I say. "same thing," he says. "Kind of, they do the same thing," I say.

"How long until we can have sex again?" he asks. "six weeks," I say. "I would complain but even if we could have sex we would be too busy with three kids. Good thing she's cute because it'll make it easier to tolerate her when she cries," he says.

"Have you talked to your mother yet?" I say. "Yes, she called while you were asleep. the kids are fine, they're happy but they want to visit soon and they wanted to know if the baby was born. I sent them a picture of Hope but they kind of think her name is Alice but Mallory did hate it because it wasn't any of the names that she picked out," he says.

"Mallory wanted to name the baby Melanie because it sounds like her name, and then she wanted to name the baby Meredith because she thought it would buy her some points," I say.

"Meredith is a pretty name for a baby," he says. "You've moaned that name plenty of times," I say. "And that's why we never considered it," he says.

"give me the pee bottle," I say. he picks it up and hands it to me. "take Hope and put her in the crib and help me go to the bathroom," he says. he takes her from me and helps me out of bed.
