It's a few weeks later and we're in staying at a hotel in New York visiting Derek's family.

We just arrived a few hours ago and it was night when we got here and the were asleep.

It's a two bed bedroom so we took the twins and placed them in one bed before we showered and went to bed ourselves.

Derek arranged for us to meet his family tomorrow morning apparently it's the only day they all have a day off and they're kids are missing school for this so we don't have a choice.

I brought the kids nice clothes today and brought my expensive perfume. I think Derek's also a little nervous because he seemed a little jumpy when we got here.

"when was the last time you've seen your sisters?" I sit next to him on the bed as he's button his shirt. he's wearing his good red shirt today.

"I don't know, two years ago before I came here," he says.

"Your sisters weren't mad you left your wife for some girl you met in Seattle?" I ask.

"Lizzie and Amelia weren't, I talked a lot about you and they wanted me to go back to you. Nancy and Kathleen were the ones who weren't happy about it. They were happy I was finally back in New York and and then they found out I was moving somewhere else for a girl they didn't know or like," he says.

"So I already have half your sisters hating me before I've even met them?" I ask.

"Yes," he says.

"What about the twins? Or are they just bastard children to them?" I giggle.

"Little bit of both, but lucky Mallory and Miles they look both like me so they don't really have a reason to dislike them, Mallory and Miles are the only kids that look like me which means they look like my father and that's always a good thing in my family so they're good," he smiles.

"As long as they don't hate the children because I slept with a married man to get them hear," I say standing up.

"Are you scared?" He asks.

"No not really," I say as I check my purse. "I had to live with my mother knowing she blamed me for her career not being bigger and for Richard leaving her, your sisters can't be worse then that," I say.

"Have you ever been close to doing something your mother did, parent wise?" He asks.

"What kind of question is that?" I ask.

"I don't mean on purpose but accidentally and then you realized it was something your mother would do," he says.

"A couple of times yes, work related. I was still an intern and there was a big surgery, once a lifetime opportunity that almost no interns get to scrub in on and I didn't think twice about it.. it was only after the surgery when I went to go pick up the kids from daycare that I realized I had just chosen to ignore my pages of Mallory falling and hitting her head on the floor for surgery... I felt horrible about it and Mallory was fine and all and she doesn't remember.. it was a decently sized gash and she needed a few stitches and I walkst their to hold her when it happened, I never made that mistake again," I say.

"Do you regret scrubbing in?" He asks.

"I regret not being there for my kid when she needed me and choosing surgery over her, if it was different and she hadn't gotten hurt then no.. Nathan was there with her so she wasn't alone but I didn't want to get used to not thinking about my kids first before surgery," I say.

"And?"

"Never did it again, I'll always check in on the kids first and tell them I have a surgery and will be in surgery for a few hours so they know I'm not just avoiding them," I say.

"They don't get upset that you're in surgery for ten hours instead of them?" He asks.

"No, I try to schedule the longer surgery's at night when they're asleep if I can, but it doesn't bother them as much, they're getting better at understanding that people can die if they don't get the treatment they need so they know it's not a matter of what we want but what they need,"

"Mallory do you want to be a surgeon when you're older?" He asks Mallory as she lays on the bed.

"Yea, Miles be police so I fix his boo boos," she says.

"That's smart, dedicating you're entire life for your brother," he says pushing her curls out of her face and kissing her forehead. Both the twins are bathed and dressed and ready for when we leave.

"So I'm raising a surgeon and a cop, that won't give me nightmares," I sigh.

"Being a surgeon isn't that dangerous," he says.

"I almost got exploded by a bomb in the hospital," I say walking over to him.

"Well that was kind of your fault," he says.

"You people should be thanking me, had i not done that the entire hospital would be in ashes and everyone would be dead because we were above the oxygen line," I sat sitting on his lap.

"Well thank you for saving my life," he kisses me.

"You're welcome," I smile kissing him again.
