The sun was letting its last rays shine upon the world before it was plunged back into the comforting darkness of the night.
About five hours had now passed since the visit to the memorial garden. The household was basking in the late daylight and the atmosphere inside was rather calm. No one was making a racket, nobody was fighting—if not on TV—, and nobody was endangered for once.
Presently, most of the residents of the Mandarian Estate were scattered between the dining room and the common room. Luz and Kiara were chatting with the others, their plates half-filled with the venison which Eclipse had cooked. As Franklin turned and zigzagged between the entities' legs under the table, Luz noticed that Cherry wasn't there.
-"We have to check up on the kid," She said and was about to stand up, but her sister pressed a hand over her shoulder.
-"It's alright, I'll do it." Kiara intimated to her with a smile.
She floated up and out through the halls till she reached the dorm room. There was an eerie silence, and it was speaking for itself, it was so out of place that it was loud.
The door was ajar, so she breathed in and pushed it open with a creak. The inside of the bedroom was dim. The thick curtains captured the sun and let almost no light get through. Cherry's huddled silhouette was appearing smaller in contrast with the vast space that was the bed.
-"Hey, you okay in there?" Kiara asked as she flipped the light switch.
The teen looked up, two gray eyes met Kiara's. She nodded but said nothing.
The angelic entity shook her head in reprobation as she walked in. Paper was trashed all over the bed and some were found littering the floor, scrunched into paper balls, and some torn into shreds.
-"So what'cha doing, sitting all alone in the dark." Kiara sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
-"Nothing much." Cherry mumbled with a shrug. "Stuff I guess."
-"Looks like you threw one angry fit here, geez what did the paper do to deserve your wrath" The woman joked as she leaned in to pick up a paper sheet off the floor. "Like, what is this?!"
-"I-I'll clean it up," The teen said in a slightly panicked voice. She lifted herself up from the spot and started to gather the papers.
-"No, it's just, you seem really upset." Kiara stated as she made a quick survey of the angry scribbling on a half-crumpled sheet, then threw it in the air and it disappeared. "You know, you can talk to anyone here if something is bothering you."
Cherry stopped, seemingly considering the words that she heard being said over a thousand times before.
-"I'll be fine." She muttered, finishing stacking the printer paper. Most of it was blank and untouched, yet there were a dozen of fully colored and radiant pieces of art among them.
There was a pause after which the subject changed.
-"You haven't eaten any." Kiara exclaimed as her gaze dropped onto the untouched plate of brownies. "That reminds me, Eclipse made some really tasty venison burgers, you should go eat-"
-"It's fine Kiara, I'm not hungry."
-"Wait, right you don't eat meat ... Well, we'll find something else-"
-"There is no need. " Cherry insisted crossly, raising her voice. "I am simply. Not. Hungry!"
Kiara raised her palms up in defeat, taken aback by the sudden sharpness and angry behavior.
