26: Mending rifts: Weirdness & Danger

"TES MULER," Mandoria shouted, jumping up in surprise.

Poland and Poldara jumped too when the flaming mammal came running into the room, where the hell did that come from?

"What the hell, I thought you were just sleeptalking Cherry," Poland exclaimed as he watched the platypus get drenched.

Mandoria immediately waved his hands in a certain manner and opened up a tiny viewing portal, it was cloudy at first but soon Empyr's face appeared, "Empyr, what's going on over there, we are getting strange things down here."

"King Mandoria, the barrier has become unstable," Empyr said, "the necromancy has torn a hole the size of Antarctica, and Ora and I can't close it by ourselves, you need to come here immediately."

"I'm on my way," Mandoria said, he closed the viewing portal and looked to Hatter and Umbra, "you both need to come with me, this can spell disaster for our world."

"But what about Dad and Uncle MA," Poldara said, "you said you can't come back once you leave, they didn't get to say goodbye."

"They will understand, my grandson," Mandoria said, "Derogan has the amulet that can summon me and he knows how to use it, but we haven't a moment to lose."

He darted past everyone and made his way toward the backyard, calling for Hatter and Umbra to follow.

Hatter looked down at the now soaking-wet animal. He sighed in relief, but still peeped through the door to see if there was any fire-related damage, gladly there was none.

-"Never take figuratively anything this kid tells you, it is literally more than fifty percent of the time." He muttered to anyone who wanted to hear. The man eyed Cherry to see she has unwrapped herself from the bedsheets and ran up to catch the mammal that attempted to escape. She hugged it close despite it being all wet.

-"My platypus" She murmured proudly as she rubbed it against her cheek with affection, eyes closed.

-"You didn't have that thing when we came here- Why are you-" Hatter threw his arms around, gesticulating at the teen who held the creature in an embrace.

Its fur was orange, well, more of a mango coloration. It had these bead-like eyes that stared in the depths of your soul, the way ducks did. It made Hatter's skin shiver and crawl with goosebumps. Plus that animal had venom-secreting glands on its back legs, the venom itself is not lethal to humans however its effects are extremely painful.

So why, pray tell, was that kid holding it?!

He sighed. Weirdness was anticipated since rifts tore holes in the fabric of reality.

Hatter muttered the incantation for the Identical Twin spell, then when the copy was made, he put not only runes but also a special seal on it.

-"Reveal, conceal, protect the house, and from all harm, you will shield this family." The man muttered as he drew a symbol on the doppelgänger's chest, which glowed of a bright blue light before imprinting there.

Afterward, Hatter crouched down to hug Cherry, with who he exchanged a few words that nobody could hear.

-"I'm leaving this clone behind so he stays on guard if anything happens." He added aloud.

-"Okay ... Take care and be safe too. I love you" Cherry said as she pulled back, petting the platypus on her lap.

Hatter took Umbra by the hand and after a brief time of bidding farewell they both ran out of the room in a hurry. There was no time to waste.
