Nowadays...

I hear the alarm clock on my cell phone ring, but it doesn't take long before it stops and I begin to fall asleep again, but my subconscious makes me realize that it wasn't me who turned it off.

I open my eyes and a body sitting at my window takes shape.

"Jesus, Mads!" - I exclaim in fright and pull the sheets to cover myself immediately. - What are you doing here?

"It's Saturday, why does your cell phone wake up on Saturday morning?" - he asks, turning his face to the window.

I run a hand through my hair and scratch my eyes, stifling a yawn.

"I train on Saturday mornings. I used to" - I remember, grabbing my cell phone from the bedside table and my prescription glasses. – "I guess I forgot to deactivate the alarm."

"Artistic gymnastics," he says, and then continues asking me. – "I thought you couldn't perform in front of strangers."

"I was working on it, Mads. And I didn't perform alone, I had a team."

"You still wear glasses," he notes.

"Yes, I take my lenses out before going to sleep and avoid wearing them on weekends" - I explain and try again. – "What are you doing here?"

"This is my place," he says as he continues to look outside. – "This is where I stay at Aunt Emory's house."

Of course, he would love to be there, in that huge window with a view to where the children are playing.

"Mads, this is my room now," I try to begin. – "You can't come in here without my permission, and you can't watch me sleep."

He turns his face to me and grimaces.

"Why not? I did it the night we slept together," he assumes, shrugging.

My eyes immediately wander to my door, which is closed.

"Can you... not talk about it?" - I ask, trying not to be struck by the memories.

"This is annoying," he complains after a few seconds.

"What?" - I ask, looking at him again.

"Having to pretend I don't know you. Not being able to talk to you."

"You can talk to me."

"Ivar told me to stay away."

"Ivar is an asshole," I curse and roll my eyes.

"So, we are still friends?" - Mads asks.

I sigh and wrap myself in the bedspread, getting up fully covered and going to him, sitting down beside him at the window.

"We are friends," I confirm, "but we can't talk about what happened before. It's better for everyone."

"Not even for Tavi?"

"If Tavi doesn't remember, maybe it's because she was too little at the time, so let's keep it that way, okay?"

I hear knocking at the door and as soon as I let him in, Will pokes his head inside, but seeing Mads there, he walks in leaving the door open.

"Oh, Mads! I'm sorry," he asks looking at me and then at him. – "Both of you, actually. I forgot to tell you that this is Nini's room now, man. You'll have to find another place."

"All right, we talked about it," I explain, getting up, "and now he knows the rules."

"I can't enter without permission and I can't watch her sleep," Mads repeats.
