Four years ago...

"So..." – Tavi starts, as I hold her hand and she tries to walk on the stone trail I built for her, as she wants to learn to walk on the bar like me. – It's Friday.

"That's right," I confirm, already knowing where this conversation is going.

"And tomorrow is my birthday," she continues.

"Yup."

"And you said you were going to..."

"Think about how I could make it," I correct her, squeezing her hand. – "That's what I said I would do, Tavi."

I look at Ivarsen in the empty pool, skateboarding, knowing he's not going to help me with this. He wanted me to go too.

"And you thought about it?" - Tavi asks, jumping up to steady herself as I taught her, before turning around.

"Yes," I hold one side of her waist to help her balance.

"And..." – she turns her dark eyes to me, hopeful.

"I promise to try to be there for you," I say with a sigh.

Tavi jumps on me as if I had given her certainty and it is impossible to contain her enthusiasm.

After releasing me, she goes to Mads at the top of the large iron structure containing several spaces in which he loved to climb to reach the two wooden planks placed there.

In addition to the space in the middle of the forest, Ivar had managed to get a mansion that was being designed but was abandoned and had become our other refuge. This one for rainy days or for when we wanted a change. I thought the whole house was huge, open and beautiful, and when I first saw it, I knew that one day I would love to live in a place that might not be as big as that one, but that was just as bright and open. Full of windows, with glass doors and a view of the rest of the city, as it is close to the hill.

I go to the edge of the empty pool to sit down and as soon as he sees me, he makes a maneuver to hang next to me, sitting down and giving me a kiss on the cheek.

"Are you really going?" - he asks, trying to hide his smile.

"I'm really going to try" I repeat, focusing my eyes on the little buttons I keep hanging from my blazer.

"You'll love Uncle Will's park," he says. – "Tavi, Mads and I have planned everything. Mads will be waiting for you on the trail near your house and we'll all be in costume, the party will be themed and no one will be watching every kid there, so it's safe. I promise."

I nod, trying to believe that this could work.

"And if something happens, we take the railroad tracks and I drop you home, okay?" - he suggests, taking my hand.

It's sweaty and dirty, because the house is dusty from the construction stop, but I don't care. I look back and when I see that Tavi is on his back, still telling Mads her plans for the birthday, I move closer to kiss Ivar.

I really liked the fact that not only did I have friends, but I also had a boyfriend now and every day of the week had become so much better for having them in my life. It was like being able to breathe and be myself all morning and afternoon, no matter how much I suffocated most of the night.

And tomorrow, even though it was Saturday, I would run away. I knew that a lot of things could go wrong and that even if everything went right, I would still have to return home and deal with the consequences of my escape, but when you already have a sense of the worst that could happen, running away to break the rules and have another day of fun, made it almost worth it.
