Nowadays...
"Ivar" – I hear Beth calling me from the entrance of the gym and I pass the ball to one of the guys without paying much attention.
She hadn't spoken to me since Monday, when I announced that I wanted to end our relationship before I ended up cheating on her, but very different from the anger or disgust I saw in her eyes that day, she now seemed nervous and when I approached, I saw that her hands were shaking.
"I think I screwed up" – she lets go and holds my forearm, pulling me to follow her – "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"What?" - I ask following her. – "What did you do?"
We enter the girls' bathroom and I see that the floor is flooded and dirty with a red, pink, and white mixture and water that reaches my sneakers.
"Shit, where is she?" - Beth wonders and leaves opening the cabins. – "Nini? Nini where are you?"
Nini?
"What have you done, Beth?" - I ask again, looking around at the mess in the bathroom.
"I didn't know, okay?" - she tries to explain herself and runs her hand through her hair, looking desperate. – "I had no way of knowing, and it was definitely supposed to be just a little scare, and if this goes to the board, I'm going to be kicked off the team and the committees and--"
I lose my temper and hold her by the arms, putting her against the wall and asking once more:
"What have you done, Beth? And where is Nini?" - I try to control myself not to hurt her, but the chill that runs down my spine tells me that whatever she tried to do, it went very wrong.
"I don't know! She stayed here and we ran, but Paige started saying that I was the one who had dumped the vitamin on her first, and that if I told anyone, she wouldn't get kicked out on her own, but fuck! She could go blind from that shit!"
What the fuck...?
"Beth," I yell to make her stop rambling and face me again, "what did you throw at Nini?"
"Some pre-workout shakes, but they had cinnamon powder and mint oil in them, and I think that got in her eye."
I roar and turn to leave the bathroom, leaving her there, but she tries to touch my arm and I push her away practically on instinct, because at the moment I'm seeing everything as red as that shit that's all over the floor.
And when I see some people running out and heading to the parking lot, I get a call.
"What?" - I ask when I pick up, seeing Hook's number.
"Dude, I think I hit the new girl! It was unintentional, I mean, she ran into my car and I couldn't stay and help, because a guy who was there saw everything and I got scared! I was stoned and late for practice and..."
I stop listening as I look inside the parked ambulance, recognizing Nini's hair spread out on the stretcher and Gunnar accompanying her, just as the paramedic closes the door and they speed off.

When I find Gunnar in the waiting room and he can't tell me anything about what happened, I run to the reception desk, but they tell me they can't give me any information because I'm underage and not related to the victim. Victim, damn it! I try not to break something in there, but I walk back to the parking lot and slam my anger into the wall until it's stained with my blood, screaming as I wonder what the hell could have happened until I see my father, Uncle Will and Uncle Aydin arrive.
"Ivarsen," my father calls and I run to him, "what happened?"
I shake my head.
"I don't know!" - I exclaim, walking in with them. – "They didn't tell me a damn thing!"
