Nowadays...
My host's progenitor was a complete asshole.
"That's not fair," I grumble again, walking around the room I've been put in. – "As well as being ridiculous. I mean, what are they going to do? There are more witnesses against Ivarsen than in my defense and—"
"Nini, trust me, worrying about what happened and what's going to happen isn't going to do much good..."
"And what else have I got to do?" I exclaim, looking around and staring at Alex who is sitting with her legs on the bed, where it has been suggested that I lie down and rest, while the knights of Thunder Bay deal with the situation.
Ridiculous.
And it was all his idea, who after assaulting Ryan, was taken to the police station, and as soon as Damon, Winter and Will arrived, he made a fuss to get me taken away. Which, to my surprise, is exactly what Will did, bringing me to St. Killian's and leaving me in one of the rooms with Alex as my nanny.
"Do you need anything?" she asked, for the third time that very early morning. – "After everything that's happened, you seem a bit down and you really should rest."
I let out an involuntary chuckle. I must have looked awful. I was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday and I was dirty, with stains of dust and blood on my white shirt, which was now all crumpled up. What's more, I was pretty sure I'd scratched the lens of my glasses, but I'd only be able to see that in daylight, and I even wanted to take a shower and rest, but I needed to know what would happen to Ivarsen.
I deny it once more, walking back through the place. I know that Alex is there to keep me company because of my claustrophobia, and maybe even that was his request, but it irritated me to be treated like this.
I had been completely capable of dealing with Ryan over the last few weeks, and if it hadn't been for tonight, I would have been able to finalize my plan on my own.
I exhale through my mouth, my shoulders sagging, and I pin up my hair, pulling down the suspenders I was wearing, taking off my shirt and boots.
"Are you going to shower? I can take you to one of the the bathrooms and get..."
"Alex?" I call out to her, interrupting.
"Uh?"
"Can you please stop acting like you're looking after a five-year-old?"
She laughs, but raises her hands in defense.
"I definitely can't see you as a child," she mutters.
I frown uncomprehendingly, but then I remember that she was the first person to spot Ivarsen and me, still in hospital, when I was hit by a car.
I'm guided through the place towards the bathroom, and if it weren't for my bad mood, I'd love to explore every corner of these catacombs, but instead I head for the shower. And while I'm showering, Alex finds some clean clothes that probably belong to Rika for me.
"Come on, I know you insist on saying you're not hungry, but I've been ordered not to leave you alone and I'm dying for a good breakfast" she urges me and we leave the room, climbing the stairs to the kitchen, where the smell of food hits me, making my stomach rumble.
I bite the inside of my cheek, feeling guilty remembering the last time I'd eaten something and lowering my gaze to where my host should be. "Okay, at least for now, I definitely need to eat better," I think.
"Good morning, Nini" Rika greets me and suggests I sit at the table with them. – "I promised Em I'd let her know when you woke up. She's worried, especially after Banks told us what happened to you last night."
