Nowadays...

"What do you mean?" - she asks, trying to get away from me, but I keep her there, sliding my hands from her waist to her thighs, my groin pressing her against the wall.

She's wearing light-wash jeans and now just a white T-shirt, as she's left her clothes all over the room to mark where she's been. Always crazy, but always brilliant.

I was tired of hiding how much I wanted her and she didn't make it any easier. We weren't in the same class, we didn't sit together in the cafeteria and when I was training and she was rehearsing with the other girls, she barely looked at me. To make matters worse, when we got home, even though she was next to me in the car, she never let on or showed anything, since we were always picking up or dropping off someone at home.

In fact, the only time we were together this week, from the moment she left hospital, was when I went out at night to break into her window, finding her concentrating on her painting and decorating her room. And she simply wouldn't accept my help.

That's why I was more than surprised when, at yesterday's training session, Hook approached me to ask what Nini liked to use, since she had talked to him and asked him to get her something for Beth's birthday party.

I mean... what the fuck!

It didn't take long for me to understand that this could only be part of her plan to make Hook pay for his hit-and-run last Friday and that's why I asked him to bring what he thought was best, but it was impossible not to be hurt that I wasn't included in it.

I bet Mads knew, since they're together at lunch and always seem to be in their own world, and that she should even accept help from him.

I always tried not to be jealous of their friendship, but I knew that he had a part of her that I didn't. He had her trust.

"Why did you ask Hook to bring you something tomorrow?" - I ask, searching for her gaze.

She seems annoyed that she can't see my face, given where we are and the flickering lighting, but I wanted her to open up and that's why I brought her to Coldfield, to this damn haunted mansion.

I think we all knew every space in that park, its entrances and exits, and its hidden spaces. That's why I've been able to watch her from afar ever since she came in, so that I could trap her in this hall of mirrors.

"Is that why you brought me here? What did you intend to do, uh? What if I had hit you?" - she asks me, clearly angry.

"I brought you here because it was the only way to get you to talk to me," I grumble. – "The only way I could find to have you to myself, if only for a few hours. Because I needed to know what the fuck you're trying to do, asking Hook to get you drugs."

"You know what, maybe you don't know me that well" - she teases me, giving up on pulling away and letting her arms hang by her sides. – "Maybe I like to get crazy and go wild at parties."

I let out an irritated grunt and squeeze her thighs even tighter, bringing my face closer to hers and speaking quietly even through the mask.

"Do you think I don't know you? That I don't know you're planning to fuck up tomorrow?"

She gives a half-smile and crosses her arms over her chest, making me lose focus as I watch her breathing rise and fall, and I remember the taste of her skin in the hospital shower.

"And you? Do you think I don't know that you intend to be there to control me?" - she asks, raising an eyebrow. – "The golden boy, captain of the basketball team and heartbroken after Beth broke up with you... Have you heard the gossip from that school?"
