TW: Mention of cheating.

Bucky stood outside your locked door pacing. He was trying to find the words to express how sorry he was, but he was drawing a blank. How could he ever truly explain how much of a mistake he had made? You were the best thing to happen to him since...ever, and he had fucked everything up.

His knuckles finally made contact with your door and he waited for you to open up. He knew you were in there, FRIDAY had confirmed it and he could hear you moving around on the other side of the door. After a few minutes he knocked again, this time louder. The sound from your room ceased.

"Go away!" You yelled at whoever was trying to invade your room.

"Let me in, Y/n. Please."

Bucky. He was the last person you expected to come check on you. You figured it would be Nat or Steve, but not the man who had broken your heart.

"No. Leave me alone, James."

"I want to talk, Y/n. I want to apologize. Please, doll."

The pet name made anger boil through your veins. After what he had done, everything he put you through, he had the audacity to call you doll?! You sprung from the bed and marched to the door. Your hand flung open the thin piece of wood separating you and the man you had once called yours.

"Don't ever call me doll again, got it Barnes? I'm not your doll, not anymore." You spat at him.

Bucky took in your red rimmed eyes and sullen features. His chest tightened knowing he was the cause of your pain. The only thing he had ever wanted was to make you happy and see you smile everyday. He wanted a life with you, but that seemed to be getting farther and farther from his grasp. His hand reached out to cup your face, but you twisted away from him before he could touch you.

"Don't touch me! Say what you want to say and then leave."

"Can I come in?" He whispered.

He looked lost. His eyes were bloodshot and his skin was pale. It was as if he hadn't slept in days. The piece of you that still loved him, hurt for him. Against your better judgement, you stepped to the side and allowed him to enter. He took a seat at the end of your bed as you remained standing. His hands ran through his hair and he sighed, looking up to meet your eyes.

"I don't know how to explain how sorry I am, Y/n. I know I broke your trust. I will do anything to win that back. I only want you. I want a future with you. What I did...I regret it everyday. Things should have never went as far as they did and I'm just so fucking sorry."

He waited for you to speak, but you didn't know what to say. You wanted to forgive him, to run into his arms and never let go, but you'd be a damn fool to fall for his bullshit again. He had hurt you beyond belief and shattered your heart to the point where you didn't know if it was repairable.

You genuinely thought he was the one. Your future husband, father of your children, the man you'd grow old with. Now you only saw him as a mistake. You wondered what you did wrong, if there was anything you could have changed about yourself to prevent losing him, but over the past few days you realized that this wasn't on you. You had given him all of yourself and in return he stomped on your heart.

"I don't know what you expect me to say." Irritation was evident in your voice. "I gave you every part of me and you took it for granted!"

"I know and I'm sorry."

"Stop saying you're sorry! Sorry can't fix this, Bucky!"

Hard as you tried not to cry, the tears slipped unforgivingly down your face.
