TW: Mention of torture and PTSD
Saturday morning was in full swing at your bakery. You were restocking the display case after finishing your second rush of the morning when the bell rang out.
"Sorry, I'll be with you in just a minute." You said, not looking up from the case.
"Take all the time you need, doll."
The smooth baritone voice made you freeze in the middle of placing a cinnamon roll in the case. You stood up to see Bucky smiling at you from across the top of the case.
"B-Bucky, what are you doing here?"
You knew you had extended an invitation to him, but you didn't expect him to come in so soon. Although, you could feel your excitement rising at the fact that he was standing in front of you. His hair was hanging free and brushing the top of his shoulders. A tight red Henley stretched across his chest and dark denim clung to his legs. It was a sight to behold.
Most of your dinner was spent thinking about those blue eyes and that strong jawline. Which was ridiculous because you had only just met him. But there was a vulnerability in his eyes that called to you and made you eager to know more about him.
"You told me to come by. Were-were you just being nice? Was I not actually supposed to stop in?" His face dropped as he spoke.
"No! That's not what I meant. I'm glad you're here, I just didn't think you'd come so soon."
"Ah, well, I couldn't wait to try more of your delicious baked goods." Bucky chuckled, intentionally leaving out the part where he had thought about you all night and couldn't wait to see your smile and hear your voice again.
"Lucky for you I'm restocked then." You said, finally realizing you still had a cinnamon roll held between the tongs in your hand.
"What's your recommendation?" Bucky asked, looking at the case.
Instead of placing the cinnamon roll in the case, you grabbed a plate and sat the sticky dough down on the porcelain.
"Cinnamon roll. It's a house favorite." You passed it over to him and then motioned behind you. "Coffee?"
"Sure. Think you could keep me company while I eat?"
"Uh, yeah. I'm not busy right now anyway." You turned around quickly so he wouldn't see the pink tint and wide grin creeping across your face.
You grabbed two cups of coffee and followed him to a table in the corner of the room.
"So, you and Pepper are sisters?" Bucky asked as you took a seat.
"Yeah. I was a bit of a surprise for our parents. They thought Pepper was destined to be an only child, but over a decade later I came along and they had to start from scratch."
"I bet having Tony as a brother-in-law is fun." Bucky snorted.
"Oh, a blast." You rolled your eyes. "Let me know what you think." You said as Bucky pulled off a piece of the roll and placed it in his mouth.
Bucky chewed tentatively, squinting his eyes in your direction. After he had swallowed, he took a sip of his coffee and sighed heavily.
"That bad?" You questioned.
"Gotta tell ya, doll. That was, uh...probably the best cinnamon roll I've ever had." Bucky laughed at the relieved look on your face.
You threw the dish towel hanging from your apron pocket at him and shook your head.
"That was cold." Your eyes met his and for a moment everything around you stopped.
His eyes pierced into you and you felt your cheeks heat again. There had never been a man who had the power to make you blush at one little look until now. Bucky's chest rose as he took a deep breath and then leaned forward in his chair to cover your hand with his.
