Cuddle Buddies

Believe it or not Bucky Barnes liked cuddling, but only with you. When you were sick? Cuddles. When you were sad? Cuddles. Watching a movie? Cuddles. When he had a rough mission? Cuddles. Sometimes he'd come to your room, plop down on your bed, and pull you against him without warning.

You didn't mind, Bucky was your friend. It gave him comfort and that's all that mattered. However, the rest of the team were sure something deeper was going on. No matter how many times you and Bucky denied it, they didn't believe you. The things they inferred were things you only dreamed about in the fantasies you buried deep inside your brain.

You'd have to be dead or completely oblivious to not notice how amazing Bucky was. He was an all around good guy. When he was able to relax and let loose, he was funny and a big goofball, not to mention a bit geeky. Of course, you weren't blind either. Bucky was your ideal guy wrapped into one deliciously packaged gift from God.

Dark brown hair, beautiful steel blue eyes, a jawline that was covered in stubble and could cut glass, and muscles...so many muscles. There had been more than one occasion where you had caught yourself staring at the super soldier. Wondering what it would be like to run your hands over his skin or how it would feel to have his lips on yours. You'd admit it, you had a problem keeping your thoughts in check sometimes, but it was harmless. He was good looking and, honestly, who hasn't had dirty daydreams about gorgeous men before? At least that's what you told yourself.

Bucky was your friend and nothing more. That's what you told yourself when you saw his shirtless figure glistening with sweat in the gym or when he was carefree and laughing with Steve as they lounged in the common room of the compound. He was just a man who enjoyed the safety he felt when cuddled up to his friend.

You were horrified when you finally realized that you had feeling for Bucky fucking Barnes. That wasn't part of the plan when you two became cuddle buddies. It was supposed to be a platonic agreement between two friends, not a jumping off point for feeling. You needed to find a way to end your cuddle sessions without outright telling him you had started thinking of him in a romantic sense.

Bucky had been gone on a mission for the last two weeks. From what he had told you, it was expected to last a total of four. A whole month away from Bucky sounded like a good way to distance yourself from the feelings that grew every time you saw him, but it also made your heart sink knowing that you wouldn't be able to see him for a month. You pushed on every day trying to keep yourself busy with Nat and Wanda or training.

Friday night you fell into bed exhausted after a rather hard training session with Sam and then a night out with the girls. You were almost asleep when you felt two arms wrap around you and pull you against a wall of muscle. Panic ripped through you and you thrashed against the person behind you until a familiar chuckle reached your ears.

"Calm down, Y/n." Bucky huffed, trying to hold your arms in place.

Your heart seized as you realized Bucky was back and in your bed.

Nope, this can't happen. You thought.

You had just started processing the fact that you would never have anything more than a friendship with Bucky. It was too soon to have him crawling into your bed and pressing himself against you...no matter how good or right it felt.

"You're back early." You said, trying to keep your tone neutral.

"Yeah, got back a few hours ago. I've been waiting for you. I missed you, doll." Bucky nuzzled his nose against your neck.

Butterflies fluttered in your belly at his words and the feel of his skin brushing yours.

No. Not happening. Nope, head in the game Y/n. You have to tell him to leave. You told yourself.

You opened your mouth to speak, but at that moment Bucky adjusted himself, making his hips press firmly against your ass.

Was that...? Is he...?

Your mind flew into overdrive as you tried to think of how to ask your question.

"Um, Bucky?"

"Yeah?"

"Do, uh, do you have something in your pocket?"

Even in the dark you could tell that the super soldier was blushing. His body stilled and you could feel his heart rate accelerate as you gripped his wrist in your hand. The silence stretched into the quiet of the night and it became deafening. Bucky cleared his throat and then spoke.

"N-no." And then he started rambling. "It's just—it's just been awhile and, fuck, you're just so gorgeous and sweet and funny. I know this wasn't supposed to turn into anything, but...I like you, Y/n."

Bucky huffed out a breath and then let go of you when you didn't respond. You felt the comforter get thrown back and Bucky rose from the bed. You instantly felt cold and a frown settled on your face. It took you a moment to think about what he had said, but then your body took over. You shot up out of the bed and caught Bucky as his hand was turning the knob of your bedroom door.

"Wait." You said, placing your hand on his bicep.

Bucky turned to look at you over his shoulder, hand still around the knob. His face was illuminated by the moonlight making his blue eyes appear almost silver. Your mind was racing, trying to think of how to say what you needed to.

"I was going to tell you to leave." You blurted out and then mentally face palmed yourself when you realized how that sounded.

Bucky's face fell and he turned back to the door.

"Wait! I didn't mean to say that." You grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the door.

"Since you left, I've been trying to keep busy. To keep myself from thinking about you or...or missing you."

Bucky's eyes locked with yours as you continued. Your hands raked through your hair. You dropped down onto the bed and sighed.

"I was going to talk to you when you got back to tell you that I couldn't keep doing the cuddle buddies thing. It was getting too hard for me because I developed feelings for you. I thought you just saw me as a friend or a stand in until you found someone better."

You dropped your gaze to the floor and picked at your nails.

"There will never be anyone better than you, Y/n. I feel like myself when I'm with you. You don't expect me to act like I haven't been through hell or that it doesn't still affect me. I was excited that we finished the mission early just so I could get back here and feel you in my arms again."

The butterflies in your stomach turned into a stampede of wild horses. How this one man could turn you into a puddle on the floor was a mystery, but you weren't complaining. You smiled at Bucky and then rose from the bed. You settled your arms around his neck and played with the short strands of his hair.

"Well then Sergeant, I'm all yours if you want me."

A grin broke across Bucky's face and he pulled you into a searing kiss that caused fire to lick across your body. Strong hands lifted you up and deposited you back into the bed. The mattress dipped beside you and then you were against his chest with a comforting arm curled around you.

"I definitely want you, doll."
