It had been six months since you had started your job as a lifeguard and things were going incredibly well. You made it through your probationary period with flying colors and were now a fully fledged member of the team. You were even in a relationship with a wonderful man. It was the first relationship where you had thought he could be 'the one'.

"Morning, Y/n!" Nat called as you walked into the station for your shift.

"Morning, Nat. Who am I paired with today?" You asked, stopping at the front desk and leaning on the counter.

"Um, looks like you're with Bucky today." She responded, looking down at the schedule in her hand.

"Oh great." You sighed.

"What happened between the two of you? It seemed like you were getting along with each other while he was training you."

"Nothing I wanna talk about." You muttered as you left her standing at the counter.

You walked to the locker room to change into your bathing suit. When you were done, you saw Bucky standing at the front of the building talking to Steve. He saw you walking towards them and frowned. Steve followed his gaze and gave you a big smile as you approached.

"Morning, Y/n." Steve greeted you.

"Morning, Steve." You smiled softly at him.

"Y/n." Bucky said in greeting.

You nodded your head, but refused to answer him.

Steve looked back and forth between you and Bucky with a furrowed brow. He never understood why you both had suddenly become so cold towards each other. You seemed friendly with each other during your training, but as soon as you were ready to be added to the schedule as a regular lifeguard, you and Bucky were suddenly avoiding each other. Steve shook his head, resigning himself to the fact that neither of you would tell him what happened, and walked off towards his office.

You and Bucky headed outside, climbing into the dune buggy and starting towards your tower for the day. Neither one of you spoke to the other. You glanced out to the sparkling water to avoid catching Bucky's eye. You felt him glance at you from time to time, but you ignored him the best you could until you reached the tower. He followed you up the ramp and into the tower to set up for the day. When you were out of eyesight, strong hands landed on your waist.

"This is getting harder and harder every day, doll. I don't know how much longer I can do it." Bucky whispered into your ear and then placed a small kiss on your neck.

"I know it's hard, but do you want Steve to be pissed at you for doing the exact opposite of what he told you to do?" You turned in his arms and placed a light kiss on his lips.

"Screw Steve. Clearly I've changed my ways. I don't want anyone but you, Y/n."

"You want to tell him?" Your eyebrows shot up.

"Yeah. I can't keep acting like I don't want to touch or kiss you every chance I get." Bucky pressed his lips back to yours, this time kissing you harder.

"If that's what you want, then we can tell him when we go back to the station. But you're going to be the one to break the news." You told him, breaking away from his hold and finishing your setup.

Your shift went by without incident, but you could tell something was off with Bucky. As the day wore on, he became more and more nervous and fidgety. He was second guessing his decision to tell Steve and you couldn't blame him. Steve was a no nonsense type of guy and he ran a tight ship. He expected Bucky to listen when he told him to leave you alone, but Bucky had completely ignored that rule.
