"Bucky! I'm pinned down. I can't get out!" You called out through your comm. You ducked behind the stone wall as more bullets came flying at you.

"Hang on, doll! I'm coming." Bucky said as he ducked out of the way of his own storm of bullets.

You weren't supposed to be on this mission. It was originally supposed to be Steve and Bucky, but Tony thought it was more important for Steve to stay back at the compound training the new recruits, so he sent you. Bucky was happy at first that you were Steve's replacement, but now he was wishing you were safe at the compound instead of trying to avoid getting shot. You and Bucky had been dating for seven months and he was crazy about you. If you got hurt, he would never forgive Tony.

Bucky was stuck behind stacks of wooden crates and was frantically looking for a way to get to you. The mission was supposed to be a simple in and out, but Tony's intel was wrong. The place was crawling with men armed with guns and they were all shooting to kill. You and Bucky were somehow separated in the scuffle, with you ending up on the west side of the garage and him on the east. He took a quick look around the crate and saw you crouched down behind a stone wall.

Bucky was able to sneak a glance in the direction the bullets were coming from and saw five different men taking aim at his hiding spot and three more aiming at you. The bullets stopped momentarily and Bucky took the opportunity to round the crate and take out the shooters that were targeting him. When he had taken care of them, he aimed towards the other three shooters and took them out.

"Y/n? You okay?"

His comm crackled with static as he made his way across the garage, looking for any other shooters that could be lurking.

"Y/n? Doll?"

He made it to the spot that he last saw you in, but you were gone. He found your comm laying on the ground and drag marks in the dusty floor leading to a door about ten feet away. Bucky aimed his gun in front of him and began moving through the darkened hallway. He gently pushed the door open and stepped inside, sweeping his gun around the room. His eyes landed on a body laying in the middle of the floor. Bucky walked over and saw a knife sticking out of the man's throat. He caught sight of droplets of blood leading towards the back entrance of the garage.

Bucky carefully followed the trail until he saw the one thing he never wanted to see. You were laying sprawled out next to the back door. Blood was pooling around your body and Bucky's blood ran cold. He ran over to you and dropped to his knees, turning your body over to assess your injury. Bucky's heart broke as he saw the stab wound in your chest. His hand pressed firmly down onto the wound in order to stop some of the bleeding. He pulled his phone out with his other hand and called for backup and a medvac.

"Y/n? Doll, I need you to wake up. Wake up, Y/n!" Bucky urged.

Tears fell down his face as your eyelids fluttered open. He just needed to keep you awake and alert until the helicopter could get there to evacuate you. You were going to survive, you had to survive.

"Bucky?" Your voice was weak and hollow.

"Hey, doll. You're going to be okay. Everything is going to be fine." Bucky tried to convince not only you, but himself.

Your blood was seeping through his fingers as he pressed harder onto your wound. You gasped trying to take in air, but instead let out a gurgling, choking sound.

"I'm n-not going to m-make it, baby."

"Don't say that, yes you are!" Bucky was panicking. "Help is on the way, you just need to hold on for a little bit longer."

"I love you, Bucky."

Your lips curled into a small smile and your hand reached up to caress his cheek. Your skin was cold against his. He grabbed your hand and held it against his face.

"Doll, please hold on. Don't leave me, Y/n. Please."

Bucky felt your body shutter as you took one last ragged breath. He watched as the life left your eyes and your hand went limp in his.

"No! Y/n, wake up. Wake up, doll! You can't–you can't do this to me." Bucky's screams ripped from his chest and soon turned into sobs.

He pulled your body onto his lap and cradled you against him while he pressed a kiss to your lips and then your forehead.

"Come back to me, Y/n. I love you. Come back to me." He pleaded into your hair.

When his tears ran dry, Bucky picked your body up in his arms and made his way outside into the moonless night. Absentmindedly, he rocked you in his arms, refusing to let you go. Bucky felt numb as he thought about the last seven months he had spent with you. It had been the happiest time of his life and now it was over. He sat against the building, waiting for the backup that should have already been there, clutching you to his chest.

When the helicopter finally arrived, a team of medics came rushing towards Bucky. They saw your body hanging limply in his arms and the look of sorrow on his face and knew you were gone. Bucky walked through the medics and onto the helicopter without looking at anyone. He looked down at you and took in your pale skin and the blue tint of your lips. If it wasn't for the fact that you had a hole in your chest and no color to you, he would almost think you were sleeping. In the span of a few hours, everything in his life had changed again. You were gone and he was alone.

A/N: Sad Bucky always breaks my heart...and also the fact that we're dead. 😬
