Bucky glanced at his phone one more time before throwing it into the chair across from him and growling.

"You okay, Buck?" Steve asked without looking up from his book.

"No! Y/n keeps reading my texts but she won't reply. She doesn't answer my calls or reply to my emails. It's been four months since she left, Steve. I don't know what to do. I'm falling apart without her."

Bucky let his head fall into his hands as his frustration took over. Steve looked over at his friend and closed his book.

"She needs time, Bucky. You really hurt her."

"I know! This is my fault, I know that. I just miss her so much. Everything feels so dark without her. Why won't she talk to me, Steve?" Bucky looked over at Steve with a hopeless expression.

"She was in love with you. And I mean 'do anything you asked of her without question, even if it's hiding a body' type of love. You pushed her away for someone else. Of course she's going to take the time she needs to let herself heal."

Bucky's mouth fell into a frown. That wasn't the response Bucky wanted, but it was the truth. Steve loved Bucky, but he was disappointed in him. You were the best thing that had happened to Bucky. You brought him out of his shell, made him smile like he did before the war. You supported him through all of his ups and downs. Steve never really understood why he would push you away in favor of Jessica. She was just a low level agent with a horrible, entitled attitude that, in his opinion, shouldn't even be assigned to any part of the Avengers initiative.

"Why did you push Y/n away? Why did you ruin your relationship for Jessica Harris?"

Bucky pondered Steve's question for a moment. He honestly didn't have a good answer. You had never given him a reason to want another woman. You told him everyday how much you loved him, but you also showed it through your actions. You planned dates for him based on his interests, you would cook him his favorite foods, spend time with him even when you were exhausted after your missions, surprised him with gifts just because you thought he would like them, you even gave him space whenever he needed to be alone, but you were never far away in case he needed you. There were no problems with intimacy and he never had the urge to take another woman to bed. He was an idiot and didn't know why he had begun spending so much of his time with the blonde agent.

"I honestly don't know. I didn't even realize I was flirting with her until Y/n called me out on it. After that, I don't know, Jessica was giving me attention and it felt...nice. Having someone other than you and Y/n treat me like I was normal felt good. I guess I just didn't want to let the feeling go. I don't even find her attractive! I just liked the feeling of someone looking at me as a man and not a monster. I know it's a bullshit reason, but it's true." Bucky shrugged his shoulders at the lame excuse.

"You're right, it is a bullshit reason. Y/n wanted you, Bucky. She always told you that. She showed you that and you just threw her to the side. You're family and I love you, but she did the right thing."

Bucky looked at Steve incredulously. He wanted to yell at Steve, tell him to fuck off, but Bucky knew he was right. You did what you felt was right. You left to save yourself any more heartbreak. This was all on him and now he was dealing with the consequences.

"Look, we'll be in DC on Friday. It's two days. You can try and talk to her face to face after our meeting with Fury. Until then, just give her space."

Bucky nodded his head, but he didn't feel any better about the situation. You'd probably slam your door in his face.

Bucky walked into the kitchen the next morning after getting back from his run and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. He spent his whole run thinking about you and what he would say if he had a chance to see you while he was in DC. After draining half of his water, he sat at the counter and picked at the label on the bottle. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't hear her enter the room. He was still thinking about you when he felt a hand slip over his shoulder and slide down his chest.
