It was quiet in your apartment except for the low sound of the tv. You were lying down, trying to force yourself to sleep, but the only thing on your mind was that your time with James was over. It should worry you that you were once again unemployed and would be in danger of losing your apartment in a few months, but that wasn't the saddest part to you. It was that you'd never seen him again.

He hadn't even tried to come after you. The stupid blonde, whose name you didn't catch in the middle of your internal crisis, told him to let you go and he did. He let you walk out of the house, down the stone walkway, and out of his life forever without a single protest. You really were no one to him, just a blood source for him to survive.

I think I could fall in love with you, Y/n.

Lies. All of it was one big lie to get what he needed from you. And you fell for it hook, line, and sinker. What a fucking idiot.

You tossed and turned for hours before giving up and blankly staring at the television screen. Your cell phone was laying on the table next to you and you caught yourself glancing at it every few minutes. The screen stayed dark. There were no missed calls or texts. After a while, you turned it off completely so you didn't have the urge to keep checking it. You were beginning to nod off when a soft knock jolted you awake.

James.

It had to be him. Nat didn't know what had happened and she would never randomly drop by at two in the morning. You rushed to the front door and opened it quickly. Your heart slammed to a stop as your eyes took in the blonde from earlier.

"Hello, Y/n." She smiled broadly at you. "I believe we need to talk about some things. May I come in?"

"No." The answer was immediate.

You didn't want to see this woman, let alone have a full conversation with her. Why would she even come here? Better yet, how did she know where you lived? Did she want to warn you off of James? She must not have paid attention to how little you mean to him.

"I understand your hesitation to allow me inside your home, but I promise you that I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to talk."

"About what? Are you going to tell me to stay away from James? Because he's all yours if that's the case."

You pushed the door to shut it, but her hand shot out quickly and easily forced the door back open.

"No, silly girl. It's quite the opposite actually."

Your brow furrowed in confusion. The opposite? She wanted you to continue your employment with him?

"Wait, you want me around your boyfriend?"

Oh, God. She's going to end up being one of those girls that is dating the man you yearn for, but you can't hate her because she's so damn nice and understanding about your feelings. Well, fuck those girls and fuck her. You wanted to wallow in your misery for at least tonight and then pick up the pieces tomorrow. You didn't need her compassion and understanding. And you sure as hell didn't need her telling you that you shouldn't quit your job just because James found himself another woman. A light laugh broke through your thoughts and you saw her shaking her head at your words.

"Bucky isn't my boyfriend, Y/n."

"I saw you two together. I heard the flirting and saw the way you both looked at each other. It doesn't matter what you say, James doesn't need me anymore. He has you now."

"It's really not what you think it is. Bucky is not my type." She smiled at you sweetly.

"But—"

"I like women, Y/n. Nothing has or ever will happen between me and Bucky. Now may I come in? We have a lot to discuss and daylight will come sooner than you think."
