Your hair and makeup was done, dress perfectly in place, and your heart was about to beat out of your chest. You hadn't been on a date in a long time and waiting for Brock to pick you up from your apartment was torture. The conversation you had with Bucky was still fresh in your mind. He swore that you had misunderstood the meaning behind his words, but what else could he have meant. As soon as you got in your car, you blocked his number and texted Nat that you would be cancelling any sessions you had booked with Bucky.

Once she read your text, she began calling and texting you non-stop, but you ignored her. Nat was one of Bucky's best friends and you didn't need her trying to talk you into giving him a second chance. You switched your phone on silent and after a few hours she finally gave up. You deleted her texts and voicemails without even listening to them. Since you had access to the gym after normal business hours, you formulated a new plan where you would go after Nat, Steve, and Bucky were all gone for the day and the night shift had taken over. You were locked into your contract for the next eleven months and you had already made too much progress to quit now.

You took one last look at yourself in the mirror when you heard the knock on your door. Bucky's words had taken more of a toll on you than you had realized. All of a sudden you were criticizing every single flaw that caught your eye. It was too late to turn back now, though. Brock was waiting on the other side of your door and it would be an asshole move to change your mind after he had come to pick you up. You took a deep breath and opened the door. Brock was wearing a black button-up and dark blue jeans. His hair was a little neater than he usually wore it at the gym. He was handsome, but still not as handsome as Bucky.

Stop thinking about him, because he sure as hell isn't thinking about you.

You smiled at Brock and grabbed your wristlet from the table by your door before locking up and heading down the stairs with Brock beside you. He led you out the front of your apartment building and to his car. He acted like the perfect gentleman and opened your door then took your hand to help you into the car.

"You look hot by the way." Brock whispered in your ear as he helped you inside.

"Thank you." You said softly.

Brock shut the door and rounded the car.

"Where are we going?" You asked when he was behind the wheel.

"Surprise." He smirked and pulled into traffic. "So, what's up with you and Barnes?"

"Absolutely nothing." You tried to keep the bitterness from your voice, but failed.

"Sounds like there's a story there."

"It's nothing. Really."

"Barnes can be a complete asshole. Him and his little band of idiots. Fuck 'em."

"Funny, I heard the same about you." You said, feeling defensive of Bucky, Steve, and Nat.

Regardless of how you felt about the whole situation, you weren't going to speak negatively about them and you didn't want anyone else to either.

"Guess I'll just have to prove you wrong then, baby."

Brock smirked again and for some reason your stomach soured and you felt nauseous. This wasn't nerves or excitement for the date, it was something different, something you couldn't put your finger on. His cocky attitude didn't bother you at first. You thought he was just being confident about asking you out, but now it was starting to get on your nerves. You rode the rest of the way in silence.

Brock parked outside of an elegant looking steakhouse. You stared open mouthed at the large windows lining the front of the building and the ornate iron designs framing the front door. Your door opened and Brock held his hand out for you to take. When your skin touched his, a flash of cold ran through you and you wanted to pull your hand back, but you didn't. Instead, you followed him into the restaurant. He gave the hostess his name and you both followed her to your table where Brock made a show of pulling out your seat.
