Bucky was sitting at the table with Nat and Steve, nervously waiting for you to show. After dinner, he was going to ask you to grab a drink with him at the bar across the street. He needed to find out what was going on with you and Brock, but most of all he needed to finally tell you how he felt. He needed you to know how his heart skipped a beat every time he saw you, how when you smiled at him you made him feel like the only man in the world, and how your laugh made the butterflies in his stomach flutter to life. He admired your drive and strength to push past your insecurities and achieve your goals. You were perfect to him.

"Stop fidgeting, Bucky." Steve said, slinging his arm over the back of Nat's chair.

"I can't. What if–"

"No what ifs." Nat cut him off. "You two are adorable together. I swear, I'm going to record you one day just so you can see how you look at each other."

"What if I waited too long. What if she's interested in him now?" Bucky looked at them with sad eyes.

"I said no what ifs. Y/n just walked in, so you might want to switch the conversation up." Nat nodded in your direction.

Bucky swung his head around to see you walking down the aisle to the table. His breath caught and his heart raced. You looked so beautiful as the dim light cast an angelic glow around you. Tonight was going to be a turning point for the two of you and he was hoping the turn it took was in his favor.

"Hey! Sorry I'm late." You sat down next to Bucky and smiled over at him.

"It's no problem, babe. So, you looked pretty busy at the gym today." Nat said, cocking her eyebrow.

"Nat." Steve chided her for diving right into interrogating you.

"Not sure what you mean." You said.

"With Brock. Looked like you were getting pretty cozy."

Bucky held his breath as he waited for your answer.

"Oh, it was nothing. We, uh, were just talking."

"Looked like more than talking." Bucky muttered.

"What was that, Buck?" Steve asked.

"Nothing. Are you guys ready to order?"

"Not yet. I wanna know about Brock." Nat continued.

"Nat, it was nothing. He asked me for my number."

"And you gave it to him?" Bucky asked in disbelief.

You nodded.

"That it?" Nat leaned forward to rest her elbows on the table.

"He may have also asked me out for tomorrow night and I may have said yes." You said quietly.

Bucky inhaled sharply. He was too late. He should've told you sooner.

"You're a grown woman who is capable of making her own decisions, but Brock isn't who he seems to be. We've known him for years and he doesn't have the best reputation. Just be careful around him, okay?"

Nat's worried look had you second guessing your decision about the date, but you needed to make your own judgement instead of relying on someone else's. She had already made you believe Bucky liked you when clearly that wasn't true.

"I appreciate the concern. I really do. And I promise to watch for any red flags." You side-eyed Bucky and then looked back at Nat as you spoke again. "It's just nice to feel wanted after not having that for years."

Bucky looked over at you, eyes focusing on your silhouette. Did he not make you feel wanted? When he was with you, he always tried to devote his full attention to you. Women at the gym were always trying to pull his focus to them, but he only had eyes for you. There was a time when all of their flaunting and doe eyes stares would've worked, but since he met you they didn't matter anymore.

"Uh, let's order. I'm starving." Steve said when he saw Bucky staring at you, looking heartbroken.

Bucky didn't talk much during dinner and he hardly touched his food. When you excused yourself to the bathroom, Nat followed behind you so Steve could talk to him.

"You're still going to talk to her, right?" Steve asked.

"What's the point, Steve. I'm too late. She's going on a date with him."

"But you know how he is. Either he'll sleep with her and then never call her again or he'll drop her the moment she tells him no. Given the choice, she'd pick you over Brock if she thought you had feelings for her."

"I doubt that."

"Nat said she was disappointed this morning when she found out you weren't able to make it to your session. She does like you, Buck. She probably just doesn't realize that you feel the same way."

Bucky thought about what Steve said. He thought about the past month, analyzing every interaction he had with you. You had to know that his feelings went beyond just a client or friend. He lit up every time he saw you. Made any excuse he could to brush his fingers against your skin. He took the time to ask about your life, things you enjoyed, your family.

You had made comments in passing before about how you wouldn't even know if a man was flirting with you. In your head you weren't the 'type of girl that guys go for', but Bucky had laughed it off because who could resist falling for you. With renewed hope swelling in his chest, he nodded at Steve.

"You're right. I'm going to ask her to grab a drink with me when she gets back."

"Thata boy." Steve grinned at Bucky.

"What's got you grinning, baby." Nat sat down next to Steve and planted a kiss on his cheek as you took your seat next to Bucky.

"Nothing important." Steve subtly nodded his head in your direction as he looked at Bucky.

"Hey, doll. Would you wanna grab a drink with me at the bar across the street?"

"Sure, Bucky."

"Great. Good. Um, let's get out of here then."

"Okay, just let me pay."

"No need."

Bucky grabbed your check and placed it with his then fished a few bills out of his wallet to cover both checks. He grabbed your hand and pulled you to your feet as you protested him paying for your dinner. He said a hasty goodbye to Steve and Nat and then began walking you towards the door. It was now or never. No more stalling and no overthinking. Tonight he was laying it all out on the table and hoping Steve and Nat weren't wrong.
