The sound of birds chirping roused you from your sleep. You sat up confused because the room was still dark, illuminated only by a dim lamp in the corner, but it felt like you had slept for hours. The blinds were drawn tight and no sunlight seeped from around the thick fabric of the curtains. You twisted to the side and noticed that the bed was empty and James was nowhere to be seen. Grabbing your phone, you checked the time and saw that it was nine in the morning. You threw the blanket off and walked out of the room to begin searching for James.
Not a speck of sunlight lit the house as you moved through the shadowed hallways, looking into each room. You descended the stairs and paused as you reached the ground floor. A sweet smell was wafting from the kitchen. You followed the aroma and found James at the stove again, flipping a pancake with a look of determination on his face.
"Nice pancake flipping skills." The corners of your lips turned up slightly as you took the same seat as the night before.
"I thought you might be hungry." He said and plated the last pancake.
He placed some sliced strawberries and blueberries next to the pancakes and turned to you with a smile. He sat the plate and a small container of syrup in front of you and then sat a cup of coffee down.
"If you don't eat human food, why do you have human food?" You questioned as you poured a small amount of syrup over the fluffy stack of pancakes.
"It's for you." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I couldn't let you starve while you're here."
"I'm used to eating the bare minimum. I would've been fine."
You placed a large bite of pancakes in your mouth and chewed slowly. Breakfast foods like this had become a luxury since losing your job, so you wanted to take your time appreciating every flavor.
"Well, things are going to be different now, gorgeous. I'm not going to let you live off of the bare minimum. I'm going to make sure you're taken care of."
His icy blue eyes locked onto yours and for a moment you couldn't think of anything else besides last night. The memory of his fingers bringing you to the edge, only to be hurled over once his teeth sank into your skin. You swallowed hard and your thighs involuntarily clenched together at the slideshow running through your mind.
"We should talk about last night, Y/n." James said softly and you nodded in agreement. "I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable and I understand if you would like to renegotiate the terms of our deal."
"I wasn't uncomfortable. I mean, it was a little weird having your fingers inside me after only knowing you for twenty-four hours, but you didn't force me to do anything that I didn't want to do."
Relief flooded him and he let out a puff of air. At least he hadn't run you off by moving too fast. Your answer made him more comfortable with asking his next question.
"So, is it something you would possibly want to do again?" He dropped his head a bit and ran his hand over the top of the counter.
"Possibly." You answered with a sly grin.
His head shot up as he gapped at you, but the shocked expression transformed into a devilish grin.
"Possibly?" He questioned.
"I mean, I enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I've done anything like that."
"Performed a sex act with a stranger?" He chuckled.
"Performed any sex act actually." You mused.
"Wait, really?" Bucky's mouth hung open a bit as he stared at you. "But, you're beautiful. Intelligent. Funny. Reliable. I just can't believe that."
