The funfair looked appealing to everyones senses. The six of them were standing at the entrance, taking in the sounds, looks and scents of the place. Since it was now around 7 pm, it was crowded and vibrant.

"Y'all... puh-lease, y'all!" started Payton, squealing in excitement. "Let's go on that ride! And then that one! And the Ferris Wheel? We're all riding on that bitch!"

Nuh-uh!

"Yeah, I don't know about all them rides, Payton" Jessica said next to her, already feeling nauseous.

"Come on, babe!" Payton clutched Jessica's arm in hers and whined. "The rides are not that high up, it's going to be fun."

"Hmm..." Jessica seemed to ponder on the invite but she already knew she would not be accepting it.

"Girl, this ain't no acting class, stop pretending you're actually thinking about it" Nadia side eyed Jessica and then gripped her friend's other arm and tugged on it. "Come on Jess, at least ride on the Ferris Wheel!"

"Let's enjoy ourselves while we're here, Kat. I didn't suggest this mini getaway so we could laze around like couch potatoes!" River chimed in, pushing on her back so she could start walking.

"Ugh..." Jessica released a stressed sigh and looked in Eli and David's direction, who were snickering at the situation. Eli winked at her and she rolled her eyes, unable to say no to her friends. "Fine, but that's it, the Ferris Wheel is the only ride I'm hopping on!"

"YESSSSSS, LET'S GO BITCHES!" Payton, Nadia and River shouted in unison as they skipped past the funfair's gates like the little children they were.

Hook a duck, target shooting, cactus ring toss, ball in a bucket, bumper cars, golden carousel (yes, because River exists and he wanted to ride on it but, at this point, are we even surprised?), helta skelter, rollercoasters, ghost train (again, y'all should have seen River's tall figure queuing with the dwarfing kids, so cute), octopus ride... you name it. David, Jessica, Eli, Nadia, River and Payton went to most, if not all, of the game booths.

But Jessica just couldn't go on any rides with them. She was shit scared because she heard and seen the news of ride malfunctions and unfastened seat belts all over the internet and she was not about to die today. Not at a funfair, she thought.

She noticed how Eli was quiet but still very much enjoying himself. He had been laughing nonstop for hours when the group was hopping from stall to stall at the fair. River and David had gotten into a heated argument about how the games were rigged and were a rip off but played every single one of them with wide smiles on their faces.

Lol, literally.

Eli still talked to her throughout the day but he sounded as if he was being extra careful, after they had woken up again that morning. Apparently, like he had explained in the car on the way to the funfair, his earlier words and actions were clouded with sleep at the premature hours they woke up on that couch.

Jessica kind of thought that they had gotten a little closer but this assumption was cut off clean when he apologised for being so stubborn in her house and that he would make an effort to prevent such things from happening again. Jessica wasn't upset. In fact, she wanted Eli to keep being himself around her. She wanted to get to know him on that level and maybe even...

Yeah, I don't think so.

He's way too good for you, ugly girl.

He can literally get anybody he wants at the snap of his fingers and you just wouldn't be his first choice.

Or anybody's first, serious choice.

Don't get too comfortable, now.

This will end up being much harder for you than for him.
