Throwback to the evening before their funfair trip...
"Jess, you asleep?" Eli softly shook her shoulder.
She didn't answer. She was sitting on the floor with her head resting on a pillow on the couch and her legs, bent at the knee, clutched in her arms. He wanted her to get up and go to bed but didn't want to wake her up. She looked like she was comfortable.
"Okay..." he mumbled, getting up and ready to carry her.
He scooped her up by putting one of her arms around his neck, hooking an arm under her knees and the other behind her back. When he lifted her up, she squirmed and mumbled a few words.
"No, I don't want to go..." she said.
She never said anything else, she just snuggled up to his chest and grabbed his neck, so he put her down on the couch and went to look for a blanket. What better place to find one than in her bedroom...
When he walked in, he saw a blanket at the foot of her bed and took it in his hand. As he headed out, he saw a mirror hooked behind the door. Was it new? He hadn't seen it before.
There were a couple of words scribbled on it with a marker. He walked closer to the mirror and was petrified when the words he read became clear.
'You will never be enough, you might as well just stop being at all'
'No, you might not!' he muttered.
He looked around for something to write that would stick to the mirror and found a permanent marker on her study desk. He then made his way to the mirror and wiped the disgusting words on it so he could add his own thoughts. When he was finished, he stepped back and looked at what he had written with a smile on his face.
'You already are enough
and you will always be...
to me'
Back in the living room, he found Jessica still asleep. He walked closer, covered her with the blanket and kneeled on the floor in front of her. He sat there admiring her sleeping face and blushing profusely.
"I can't understand why people would think you're anything less than beautiful..." his fingers softly trailed her facial features and tucked away a couple of stray curls as he spoke. "... or why you would think whatever they say is true..."
Because she was asleep, his heart decided to open up, commanding his mouth to quietly let her know that, if only she'd just trust him enough, he'd do whatever it takes to make her feel like she was on top of the world.
For some unknown reason, he felt the need to be her safe haven.
"If you need me to love you, just let me know... I can do that... I... I want... you... I want you and I don't know how to tell you, but I hope you can see it..."
He sighed, leaned in and pecked her cheek. Not satisfied with only that, he whispered an apology before pecking her lips. Twice. She released a low, happy hum and shifted a little.
Bro... not me worried she will chop me up during the night but I just kissed her... in her sleep. Fucking stupid!
But he loved the feeling of her lips on his and wished this gorgeous woman would kiss him every day. This was the 1st time Eli had kissed Jessica and he started to feel a way about it because she was asleep. He was no creep, he just didn't have the courage to do it while she was awake.
