What possessed River to even think of a weekend getaway in the middle of the academic year shall remain a mystery until mind-reading technology has evolved. The fact that the rest of the group agreed to it only shows the few bits and pieces of mankind's last braincell they all shared (with me).
On Friday, Jessica had received another private text message from Eli asking if she would mind riding with him during the group's mini vacation, to which she clarified she had no issues with.
Ever since she heard Eli say such comforting words on that one phone call and when he dropped her home, she'd been itching to get closer to him. He had even gone to check on her with ice cream when she was having bad period cramps one time. Like, what?
She knew she shouldn't get her hopes up and assume Eli would ever want anything more than a school friendship from her but the way he acted and spoke around her wasn't helping.
Like... let's talk about the time they first met.
She had seen a figure walking towards David's car at the mall's parking lot. She didn't think much of it because, at that moment, she was laughing at River's and David's silly bickering. Then, she heard Eli ask River some funny question in his deep, raspy, manly voice and looked at him. Again, not all the bells rang in her head. But it all caught her attention when he introduced himself.
Jessica knew they were walking side by side but a notification on her phone was distracting her. "I'm Eli, by the way" he had said. She then looked up at him, for more than a couple of seconds, and saw the most handsome man she'd ever seen.
His eyes were so captivating and beautifully coloured. His hair was a mixture of shades that made his olive skin tone pop out. His button nose was kind of pointy too and, get this, he had a piercing on his right nostril and rings on his fingers...
Check!
But his lips... damn, his lips were something else. The perfect shade of light pink, insanely attractive round cupid's bow dip, plump lower lip...
...that'd fit perfectly between my teeth... oop! Okay, girl, stay focused!
Anyhoo, it was hard to stop admiring that man but Jessica was used to acting uninterested and nonchalant. So that's what she did, answering him with a shy smile. "Hi Eli, I'm Jessica but I'm sure you already know that."
Then, recently, they had started chatting about every little thing, privately, and found out they had a lot of things in common. Like, they were both into the same academic fields, they had to do chores while blasting music and they both absolutely loved an all-black outfit.
She was laying on her bed looking at the evening sky through her open curtains, wondering what was taking him so long to reply to her message and also thinking about spring rolls. She unconditionally loved spring rolls!
She heard the sound of the doorbell and rolled her eyes.
