Flashback to some time before their little funfair trip...

It was a Tuesday morning.

Eli was in one of his lectures with Payton, Nadia, David and River. For some reason, Jessica hadn't gone in that day. He was itching to know why, so he decided to ask his friends when lunch time came around.

"She texted me last night saying she felt a little... uncomfortable " Nadia said. The group was sitting down on a table in the restaurant, eating and chatting.

"Is she sick?" Eli asked. She seemed to be just fine last week, even though she did look a bit off on Monday.

"No. Let's just say it's... a lady's issue" Nadia answered but Eli didn't get it.

"What do you mean?" he furrowed his brows.

"Think of it as something women-" Payton started.

"She's on her period and most probably curled up in bed with 5 plates of food around her, crying and dying" River mumbled, unaffected.

"Bro... sensitivity must have never made it to the chat in your mother's womb" Payton swatted the back of River's head and kissed her teeth while David and Nadia chuckled at Eli's realisation expression.

"Oh... right..." Eli chuckled. "Is it always this bad?"

He was a little concerned since he never noticed anything. He also wanted to go check on her, a text message wouldn't be enough for him but he wouldn't flat out pop up. In addition to only remembering the building where Jessica lived at the time, Eli hadn't known her or the group for that long (roughly 3 months now), so he didn't know if it would look bad on him.

"Not always but, when it is, she doesn't come in" Payton finished.

"Hmm..." Eli hummed and nodded.

Why his mind persistently pondered on whether Jessica was actually okay was beyond him. He couldn't explain the urgent need he felt to know that she was doing fine. For the rest of the day, that's all that plagued his thoughts.

As their lectures finally came to an end, the group got ready to leave campus. Before Nadia got into David's car, she turned to Eli and gave him a small, sheepish grin.

"Since you live closest to Jess, check on her for me? I thought I could go see her today but my mom wants to go to the mall..." she said.

You ain't gotta ask me twice!

Eli immediately agreed, not even realising how excited he looked when he answered.

"Yeah, definitely! I'll drop by right now!" he chirped. Nadia creased a brow at him and chuckled.

"Thanks, I'll talk to her later" she waved at Eli and got in David's car.

Eli was on his way to Jessica's house and, as he drove past a store, he decided to get some ice cream. Something told him that Jessica would love to have some that day, so he quickly bought a tub. When he was done, he sat in his car and grabbed his phone.
