Ratok stretched out on the bed, Deon was curled up on the other side fast asleep. This unfortunately was Ratok's typical routine. Spending all night working, and spending most of the day laying awake trying to get to sleep. It's been a year since he has had a decent night's rest, or in his case days rest. He was surprised he hadn't dropped dead yet.
He rolled over and stared at the bookshelf along Ruma's wall. There lined nicknaks and trinkets from over the years. One in particular caught his attention. So he stood up and got out of bed, he headed over to it and pulled it up off the shelf.
It was a carving of a star whale. A massive creature from the Nexium Galaxy. Where he went for his break several years back before he signed his contract back with Vassenhilo, he had brought it back for Ruma, knowing she loved little things like this.
Ratok placed it back, and looked around the room. He couldn't stay here, he went back out into the compound while trying to tire himself out.
He started by heading to the Gym that was inside the guard tower, and after three miles on the treadmill, and several reaps on the weights. He still wasn't tired. So he tried going twenty laps in the pool and only managed to my his body tired but his mind was still racing.
Nothing could settle. While he should be used to it. He only wanted to sleep.
As mid-afternoon hit and he knew if he didn't get in sleep now it would be another all nighter with no sleep. He decided to head to the only person who could help him.
He left the Guard Tower and headed towards the back of the compound towards the mansion. It was quickly fixed of any damage taken. You couldn't even tell that there was anything wrong with it.
Now on the inside, Bvelpio got his talons on it. As decorations and colour had been heavily added to it. Looked more like am art gallery than a place to live.
"Good Afternoon Guard Captian. How can I assist you today" the butler that Bvelpio brought along was also new and Ratok didn't know how to handle him either. He moved more like a robot than a human.
"I need to see Vassenhilo,"
The butler nodded, "I see. Let me take you to the waiting room." He brought Ratok into the room where the attack started. Ratok looked around, a bit unease by being in that room.
He looked over the new flooring, the new wall paint, new furniture everything. You couldn't have known where everything was at originally. Ratok lowered himself into one of the new chairs, they were comfortable, but tight.
"Ratok." Vassenhilo said walking into the Room, Ratok bolted up, his leg hurt with all the running he had done on it. "Your injury still bothering you?" The Soruvet looked almost concerned.
"I am fine. I just came to ask if I could have something to help me sleep." Ratok rubbed his neck.
"30 times."
"Excuse me?" Ratok was confused by the statement.
Vassenhilo narrowed all three sets of eyes at him. "Thirty times in the past year you have asked for Sleeping aids. 10 have been in the past two months, and 5 of those have been in the past two weeks alone."
Ratok didn't know what Vassenhilo wanted. If he wanted some type of answer to that or something.
"I will give you some more. Only if you agree to come with me to the lab for an exam."
Ratok stomach twisted. He knew what Vassenhilo did, he knew what Ruma and Deon went through. But he wanted sleep.
"Fine. I'll go, I just want to sleep."
Vassenhilo nodded, and started to float away. "Follow now."
They both walked back towards the main lab that Vassenhilo used. It wasn't the one Ruma was in, this one was much closer to her tower though.
Vassenhilo popped on the lights and started moving things around, and pressing buttons. "Get up on the table." He extended one of his bulbous fingers out, and Ratok followed.
A large robot moved out from the wall and zoomed over by the table. "Stay very still." Ratok took a deep breath and let the machine move over him.
The loud buzzing followes by the repeated flashing lights bothered him. But he held strong enough to finish through. At one part closing his eyes to deal with the lights. As he thought this wasn't as bad as he thought. The robot wrapped around his upper arm and plunged a needle deep into his shoulder.
He growled up at it still trying not to move, but it did cause his arm to tense which make the area the needle was in sore.
When it removed itself, a good half pint of blood was gone from Ratoks body. He felt dizzy and light headed.
"What the hell?" He snarled.
"All plenty necessary I assure you." Vassenhilo waved.
Ratok stayed on the table while the tests were ran.
"Simple."
Ratok looked up and tilted his head. "Simple?"
"Your depressed,"
"That's your big medical diagnosis after all that?" Ratok stood up slowly.
Vassenhilo nodded. "It happened with my pet all the time. I should have recognized it."
Ratok sighed he didn't want to hear this. "I will give you those sleeping aids, but I will also just do what I found best for her."
"Which was?" Ratok grumbled.
"You get some time off of work. I'm certain your just off from not having your female around."
"I'm not actually a Maeger, I am not going to be effected the same." Ratok went to argue.
Vassenhilo just hummed, "And Deon isn't taking care of Ruma's sons in the basement. Only Ruma's Brude would care so much."
"Anyone with a heart would do that."
"But would they still share the same bed with someone else like you two do?"
Ratok and Vassenhilo made eye contact. Or at least one with 6 eyes and one with 2 eyes could.
"Just give me that sleeping aid and I'll be out of here." Ratok snarled.
Vassenhilo pressed a button and up popped some white pills in a cup. Ratok grabbed them downed them and went to leave.
"She should be up soon."
He heard Vassenhilo say as the door shut behind him.
Ratok shook his head and went to the tower. As he got to the bedroom, he finally felt sleep started to take him dropping off onto the bed.
