Ojtaro flies through the sands of the Isle of Dawn, until he lands on the ground. It's not the first time he's crossed that place. He was eight years old when he started his adventure. He's fourteen now, he knows everything he needs to know. The Isle is like his home.
When he sees that the two girls from before are remaining at the cave and are staring at him in amazement, he is not really surprised. He hopes that they're not... Newbies.
«What are you still doing there?!» he yells at them, annoyed.
«How do we get down from here?» is the answer he gets. It is the eldest girl who asks that.
He sighs. Yes, they're new. Oh, for the Gods' sake.
«Newbies?» he asks; he deals with people like them every day, he's used to it now.
«Yeah!» the youngest exclaims as she wants to justify her innocence.
«Just jump, you won't get hurt!» Ojtaro explains, waiting for the two to jump down and join him.
«If you say so, we believe you!».
And... Here they come; they place their feet on the soft sand, incredulous that they are still alive.
They hold hands. From that gesture, he understands that they have known each other for a long time, that they are not just any naive couple who met by chance.
«Are you two from the same village?» he asks.
He already knows the answer he will get. "Yes, they are friends for life who started the journey together and will do anything to help each other" and that fuss there. Ugh...
And, in fact, that phrase comes from the shortest girl. Uh, she seems the sweetest one. Probably the smallest too.
«Well» he comments. «What's your name? I'm Ojtaro, we can say that I kinda live here with some other people, in these days».
The eldest says:«I'm Symphony, I'm fifteen years old».
The other imitates her:«And I am Sentinekka and I am thirteen years old! It's a pleasure, Ojtaro!».
The way she says those words... It makes Ojtaro feel at ease. Sentinekka is the kind of person he would classify as "an untouchable little flower". He shakes his head. He shouldn't distract himself like that, he always risks to lose some pieces of a conversation.
«It's a pleasure to meet you too. You need a help?». His voice is warmer and more welcoming than usual, he himself is amazed by it.
Symphony answers him immediately:«That would be great, thanks!».
Ojtaro knows the route of the Isle of Dawn by heart, like every veteran.
«Follow me, then» he kindly invites them.
The three Children walk towards something that takes the girls' breath away: a wreck. An ancient and scratched boat trapped in the sand. Above it there's a human silhouette that shines like the sun, maybe even more.
That much light forces Sentinekka and Symphony to close their eyes.
After noticing that detail, Ojtaro reassures them:«Don't worry, soon you'll be able to look at these figures entirely. Just get used to it». Then, he adds:«Do you know how that works?».
«No» answers Symphony, without opening her eyes.
«Let me explain it to you» he announces. «This is a Winged Light. It allows you to improve at the enchanting activity of flying and, trust me, doing so helps a lot in any realm you will visit». His tone sounds like he's showing off his knowledge, but he's just explaining to help the two girls.
«Oh, it's so cool!» Sentinekka exclaims. «I didn't think about flying! How can we do it? Can you teach us?».
He answers:«To do this you must first have a cape... Like mine!». He shows the cape to Sentinekka and Symphony, who stare at it in amazement.
«How do we get it?» the girl insists.
He snorts. «You have the method in front of you».
She doesn't understand the explanation and looks at him as to ask for help. She is embarrassed, she has no idea what to do.
-----
«Oh, come on!» Ojtaro exclaims, abruptly taking Sentinekka's hand and placing it on the golden body of the Winged Light. Symphony, after glaring at Ojtaro for his actions, imitates the gesture and, after a few moments, the figure dissolves itself and takes the form of powder, which then penetrates in the two girls.
A glow approaches them; with circular movements, it gives life to two brownish and warm cloaks that move silently on the shoulders of her friends due to the light breeze.
«It's wonderful!» Symphony shouts, admiring the new accessory fondly.
«Yeah, yeah, alright» Ojtaro cuts short, not at all surprised or enthusiastic about the meeting. «Let's move on» he adds hastily.
