Forest - Chapter 8

It's not possible that such cruel things can happen to a person.

Sentinekka looks at the scene in shock. The stones that crush that man's body, the disheartened faces of others, but above all that of the woman.

The memory ends with the tears shed by her, kneeling before everything, with her workmates behind her crying the loss of a faithful friend.

And so Sentinekka realizes that, sometimes, not everything adds up. The cave seemed stable, which is why people worked there. How could such a terrible experience happen?

Suddenly, the Spirit appears before her.

«I was hoping you would skip this memory» the woman says, saddened. «Are you alone? Here? Has anyone accompanied you up to this point?».

«I...».

The words don't come out of her mouth, while the tears, however, flow unstoppably on her traditional wooden mask.

The Spirit looks at the ground and opens her arms as a sign of affection. «Come, little girl» she says, as the Child runs in her arms, desperately crying.

«Teth, I beg you: explain to me what you have against the Children!» Ojtaro insists without stopping. He must know why he doesn't have the Elder's permission to be with Sen'.

The other exclaims:«I have nothing against them!».

And Ojtaro - I've never seen a more determined guy! - continues:«So why do you do this?».

«I can't explain it to you, it's too early».

«Too early...?».

That means he'll know one day, anyways.

«If I wait until the day I understand everything... Will you leave me and my friend alone? We will meet you at your temple, there you will get to know her and understand how good and special she is to me. You don't have to like her, but at least tell me you won't separate us» the boy suggests, offering his hand to the great Elder as a sign of truce.

Teth hesitates for a few moments, then closes her eyes and shakes the fourteen-year-old's hand, tracing their pact with the following words:«May this proposal remain perennial and indestructible to Darkness. Truce».

The figure starts to leave, but Ojtaro stops it.

«I wanted to tell you one last thing» he tells her.

«What?».

«The sentence you said seemed like one of those... Stupid wedding banters».

Teth looks up at the sky, smiles and, before disappearing into thin air, leaving behind bright sparks, concludes her speech:«You remind me of the Twins».

Then, Ojtaro is left alone.

Now he has one thing left to do: he must find Sentinekka, which will be very complicated. The girl was going fast, and the probability that she reached the opposite side of the realm is very high.

Ojtaro breathes in and out. This will be a long search, but he is ready to live a new experience.

Teth just gave him permission to have a real friend. He would like to jump for joy and scream, but he would make a terrible impression and it would be embarrassing. A lot embarassing for a future Elder.

He still doesn't believe it: the Elders will all be very surprised!
