𝙎𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙖 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙮-𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙯 hated funerals (though that was probably a universal feeling) and even though she didn't know Claudett very well, it felt like the right thing to do. That's how they ended up here rushing to finish up packing so they could catch their flight to El Paso "I knew we should have finished this last night." Savanna sighed as she finished packing Chris's suitcase.
"Chris, hurry up. We still got to pick up Tía Pepa." Eddie shouted.
"Brina, are you done?" Savanna then called out.
"I was done last night," Sabrina yelled back.
"Shouldn't take that long to pack a toothbrush," Eddie grumbled as Savanna zipped up Chris's suitcase.
"Why don't you just take a later flight? You were at a funeral, you know? Y-Your parents will understand. " Savanna and Eddie both stopped what they were doing and looked at Buck like he'd just said the dumbest thing ever, which he did.
"They should understand." he corrected himself.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Buck then asked looking between the couple.
"We have to go. My mom made this huge deal about this party He did work at the company for 40 years. And Chris... He's excited to see everyone, he misses them." Eddie told Buck.
"40 years... that's a long time. Uh, you said he was in oil, right?"
"Petroleum engineer. Spent his whole life driving across the state. Living everywhere but under his own roof with his own family." Savanna placed a comforting hand on Eddie's back as he spoke bitterly.
"Listen, uh, as-as someone who also comes from a screwed-up family... " Buck began.
"My family isn't screwed up." Savanna and Buck both raised an eyebrow at Eddie. "Just my dad, okay? The plan is to get in and get out without any drama. Say congratulations, have some cake, and...call it a day." That was Eddie's plan but Savanna knew that's never how family gatherings went.
"And what about when he starts to get in there and push your buttons?" Buck asked.
"That's why Savnna is there and There's a hotel 20 minutes away, three-and-a-half stars. Chris is really gonna like the pool. Chris!" Eddie sputtered before rushing out of the room.
"Please have your phone close to you at all times." Savanna pleaded earning an amused look from Buck who nodded.
