"Hey." Quinn smiled as she wheeled over to Puck's locker at the end of the day.
"Hey." Puck smiled back. "Want a ride to your mom's?"
"Actually, I was hoping you could take me somewhere else." Quinn requested. "Artie invited me to his wheelchair basketball game."
Puck nodded. "Are you gonna play?"
"I can barely push myself around." Quinn said, shaking her head. "He invited me to watch. I think he's trying to keep me from freaking out over all of this, but I'm gonna get better."
"Yeah." Puck replied. "But I think it could be fun for you to check it out."
"You do?" Quinn asked.
"Yeah." Puck answered. "I'll drop you off and then I'll go get Beth, and we'll pick you up when it's over."
-
"Artie, is this your girlfriend?"
"This is my friend, Quinn." Artie replied. "Quinn, this is everyone."
"Hi." Quinn waved. "Thanks for letting me come today."
"Welcome, Quinn. It's nice to have you with us."
"Thank you." Quinn smiled.
"So are you single?"
"I'm sort of seeing someone actually." Quinn noted.
"Sort of?"
"My boyfriend dropped Artie and I off." Quinn explained as she looked at Artie.
"Why don't we get started?"
-
"Quinn, wanna try?"
"I don't think so." Quinn said. "I'm still learning how to control the chair."
"Try it." Artie encouraged Quinn.
"We'll go easy on you."
Quinn nodded slowly and wheeled onto the court. She held the basketball on her lap as she headed towards the basket, avoiding the other players as best as she could.
Artie blocked off some of the others, giving Quinn a chance to get closer to the basket.
Quinn lined herself up and took the shot. She missed it, but she looked at Artie and laughed.
Artie smiled, happy to see Quinn enjoying herself. "You'll get it. It just takes time."
Quinn nodded back. She continued playing for a while, genuinely enjoying herself. When she became too tired, she wheeled off the court to take a break.
Quinn sipped her water and checked her phone. Puck had said he was there, so Quinn texted him back, telling him to park and come inside before she rejoined the game.
When Puck and Beth entered, Quinn and Artie went to greet them.
"Hey." Quinn smiled as Puck greeted her with a kiss. She kissed Beth's cheek. "Hi, B."
"Say hi Mama." Puck told Beth as he greeted Artie. "Hey, dude. How's it going?"
"Good." Artie answered. "Quinn was just out there playing. She's awesome."
"I'm not, but it was pretty fun." Quinn explained. "Artie is a beast on the court."
"Thanks." Artie grinned. "And at least if you don't get better, you know you'll still have something that you think is fun."
Quinn furrowed her eyebrows. "I'm gonna get better, Artie."
"Well, if you don't-"
"Don't say that." Quinn interrupted. "I'm gonna get better. I have to, for myself and for Beth, okay?"
"I just meant-"
"I'm not like you." Quinn insisted. "This isn't my life."
Artie looked at Puck before nodding slowly and wheeling away.
"Will you take me home?" Quinn requested.
"I know you're gonna get better." Puck said. "But if you don't, or if it takes longer than you want, it's good to know you can still do things that make you happy."
Quinn furrowed her eyebrows.
"'Cause I only saw you out there for a little bit, but you looked really happy." Puck added. "I haven't seen you like that since before the accident."
"Yeah, I guess I've just been pretty pissed at my situation." Quinn stated.
"And you have every right to be." Puck told her. "But it was nice to see you having fun and smiling again. Artie was just trying to help."
Quinn nodded slowly. She watched Artie for a while before turning to Puck. "Can we go now?"
-
"Artie."
Artie looked at Quinn.
"I'm sorry." Quinn apologized as she wheeled down the halls. "I know you were just trying to get me to accept my current situation and find a way to enjoy it, and I appreciate that."
"I was once where you are now, and I want you to be realistic." Artie told Quinn.
Quinn nodded slowly. "I'm not being unrealistic. I'm going by the feeling my body has and what my doctors have said."
Artie looked at Quinn.
"Your accident was a long time ago." Quinn added. "And our injuries aren't the same."
"Well, just so you know, I want you to get better, Quinn." Artie clarified. "But I'm really glad you came yesterday."
"Me, too." Quinn agreed. "That and my conversations with Noah there and at home last night really put things into perspective."
Artie smiled slightly.
"So thanks again." Quinn added. "And I'm sorry I kind of freaked out on you."
