Quinn picked up her ringing phone, putting it to her ear. "Hey, babe."
"Quinn." Puck said. "I'm at Beth's school."
"What?" Quinn asked. "Why?"
"They're in lockdown." Puck replied. "Active shooter."
"Oh my god." Quinn gasped. "Is Beth okay?"
"She texted me." Puck answered. "I'm trying to get her, but they won't let me in or her out right now."
"Okay, I'm gonna come meet you." Quinn decided.
"No, I don't want you out here." Puck told Quinn. "I'd feel better knowing you're safe at home."
"Noah, I can't just sit here when I know Beth's in danger." Quinn stated.
"I think you should go get Hudson, Lulu, and Grace." Puck suggested. "I want them home, too."
"What about you and Beth?" Quinn questioned Puck.
"I'll call you when I got her." Puck promised. "Let me know when you have the kids."
"I will."
-
"We're home." Quinn told Puck. "The kids are upstairs with your mom. I just put the news on."
"Yeah, the police are here waiting on SWAT." Puck informed Quinn. "I haven't heard anything else from Beth, but I told them I'd go in there myself and get her."
"Noah, don't do anything stupid, okay?" Quinn requested.
"I survived two deployments." Puck reminded Quinn. "You really think a teenager with a gun is how I'm gonna go out?"
"Just let the police officers and the SWAT team do their jobs." Quinn commanded. "Please."
-
"Quinn." Ruth said as she entered the room. "Anything?"
"Not yet." Quinn replied, keeping her eyes glued to the TV screen. "Every time my phone goes off, I'm hoping it's Beth or Noah, but it's just Mercedes and Santana or anyone else who put the news on and realized that's my daughter's school."
"I'm sure they're just-"
"I know they mean well, and I know they're just sending love and prayers, but that's not what I need right now." Quinn interrupted. "I need to go be with my husband and my daughter."
"Quinn, there's nothing you can do." Ruth pointed out.
Quinn looked at her mother-in-law.
"Here or there, you're helpless." Ruth noted. "And Noah's there, so you need to be here with the rest of your kids."
Before Quinn could respond, the kids entered the room. She turned the TV off and plastered a smile on her face as she extended her arms. "Come here."
Hudson and Grace hurried over to snuggle with Quinn and be with her. They didn't know what was going on, but Quinn felt like they could sense something bad was happening.
"Bubbe, come play." Lucy requested, tugging on Ruth's hand.
"Mama." Grace smiled.
"Okay." Quinn nodded, knowing she'd feel a little better being with her kids and being distracted by them.
Quinn got up from the couch and went to grab her phone to bring it with her, but it immediately went off. Quinn answered it and put it to her ear.
"Noah?"
"She's okay, I got her."
-
"Beth." Quinn said softly as she wrapped her arms around her. "Thank god you're not hurt."
"I'm okay." Beth nodded, holding onto Quinn.
Quinn nodded back as she looked at Puck.
Beth continued to hold onto Quinn.
"Why don't you come sit down inside?" Quinn suggested, still holding Beth. "We don't have to talk, if you don't want to, but-"
"I have to put my stuff upstairs first." Beth interrupted, pulling away from Quinn.
"I can take it up, Monkeyface." Puck offered. "I wanna say hi to the kids anyway."
"I wanna put my stuff down and shower." Beth stated, looking at her parents.
"Yeah." Quinn replied. "Whatever you want, B."
Beth nodded before walking away.
Quinn looked at Puck when they were alone. "I'm glad you're okay, too."
"I'm fine." Puck replied.
"You sure?" Quinn asked.
"Yeah, it reminded me of when I was away, and knowing Beth was in there made it a million times scarier, but she's fine and everyone's home safe and sound." Puck explained.
"Did she say anything?" Quinn wondered.
"Not much." Puck shrugged. "Just that she was glad to be safe."
"I'm glad both of you are safe." Quinn nodded.
"We're lucky." Puck replied. "A kid goes in there with a gun and our kid comes out without a drop of blood on her."
"I like to think Beth has angels watching over her." Quinn said.
"Well, when I get to the afterlife, I owe your mom and Finn a beer." Puck noted.
Quinn smiled slightly.
-
"Beth." Quinn said softly as she knocked on the teenager's door. "Can we come in?"
"We wanna say goodnight to you, B." Puck added.
The door opened and Beth stood there.
"You need anything?" Puck asked.
"I'm fine." Beth replied.
"You didn't eat dinner." Quinn stated.
"I'm not hungry." Beth told Quinn.
"Today was really scary." Puck noted. "And if or when you wanna talk about it, your mom and I are here."
Beth nodded.
"Get some sleep, B." Puck added.
Quinn looked at Beth. She had the same look on her face that Puck had when he came back from his second deployment.
"Night, guys." Beth said. "I love you both."
"Love you, kiddo." Puck smiled. "See you in the morning."
Puck took Quinn's hand and led her back to their room. He closed the door and stripped down to his boxers, sighing as he climbed into bed.
"Noah." Quinn said softly. "She's not okay."
"If she says she is-"
"She's not." Quinn interrupted. "Did you see her?"
"It's so recent." Puck noted. "She watched people get hurt. Just give her a minute to process."
"She had the same look in her eyes that you had when you came back from your deployment."
